To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to express my interest in obtaining an elementary teaching position. I

have received my Master of Science in Childhood Education as well as Childhood
Special Education with a 4.0 GPA. Having received my Bachelor of Arts degree in 2016
from Stony Brook University and graduating in May of this year from St. John’s
University, I am excited to begin my career as a teacher.

While working in the East Moriches Middle School as a teaching assistant, I have
provided needs-based instruction to children in 5th through 8th grades in core subject
areas, as well as provided instructional support to 7th and 8th graders for all content areas.
I have had the opportunity to work with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Social Studies and
Science classrooms. My duties also included adapting and modifying in-class
instruction, classwork, homework, and assessments. While working in this position, I
have also acted as a 1:1 teaching assistant for a student with Autism Spectrum
Disorder. In addition, I have used progress monitoring and benchmarking tools, such as
AIMSwab and iReady, which allowed for insight into what additional instructional
support may benefit my students. Acting as a substitute teacher, I have gained additional
teaching experience in multiple content areas, including Art, Spanish, Family and
Consumer Sciences, as well as the four core subject areas. During this time I worked
collaboratively with a wide variety of faculty and staff that included classroom teachers,
special education teachers, teaching aides, and other teaching assistants.

During my student teaching experiences, I enjoyed the challenge of identifying

the strengths and weaknesses of the individual students in order to provide a positive
educational experience for each of my students. Likewise, while working as a teacher at
St. Mark’s Bright Beginnings Preschool and at the Stony Brook Child Cares Services, it
was exciting to see improved academic performances of my students. I learned the
importance of teaching the whole child, ensuring that students are not only growing
academically but also socially and emotionally.

If you are looking for a positive, driven teacher that is able to perform a variety of
tasks in an ever-changing environment, please consider me. I would love begin my career
as an educator in such a highly regarded school district. If you have any additional
questions or if there’s any additional information I can provide, please do not hesitate to
contact me. I look forward to hearing back from you regarding this teaching opportunity.

Sincerely,

Katelyn Richer
