April 2019

Dear East Parents,

Ryan Rich
Principal
I hope your Spring is off to a great start! I want to remind you
Andrea Lee that ILEARN testing begins next week. We will test students
Assistant Principal Tuesday, 5/23 through Friday, 5/3. ILEARN replaces ISTEP
starting this year. I encourage to visit the ILEARN for Families
Robert Williamson Website through the Indiana Department of Education. You
Assistant Principal can use this site to learn more about this test, the differences
between ILEARN and ISTEP, and get answers to frequently
asked questions. There are substantial differences between
ILEARN and ISTEP!
Jenn Schott
6th School Counselor

Lizette Baumann/Drinan George This is a very important test for our students and school. We
7th School Counselors ask that you avoid appointments whenever possible during
testing days, and that students are here at school on time
Lisa Lain and ready to go. We also ask that you help us in encouraging
8th School Counselor your child to do their very best and provide their best effort.
Getting a good night's sleep, eating breakfast the morning of
testing days, and reinforcing the importance of effort can all
help your child have a positive testing experience. Thank you
Rick Fields in advance for your help in supporting your child during
Athletic Director ILEARN!

Appointments During the School Day
May 6-10 If your child has an appointment during the
Nurses Appreciation Week school day, please write a note stating the time you would like
May 6-10 to pick up your child and the reason. Your child should take this
Teachers/Instructional Assistant note to the Student Services office between 7:20 and 7:35 am
Appreciation Week to secure a pass to leave school. At the designated time, your
child should show the pass to the teacher and then be
May 7 dismissed to meet you in the office. You must come in the
Fire Drill
building to sign your child out and present photo ID. When your
May 7 child returns, he or she must check back in at the office with a
D.C. Suitcase Delivery/Storage doctor’s excuse This procedure shortens your wait time when
you come in to get your child, and prevents interruptions of the

Testing
Our ILEARN assessment will begin next week and we are asking for your help in ensuring students are
present for testing. If appointments must be scheduled, it is very helpful if they are scheduled in the
afternoon. Thank you, in advance, for your attention to this matter.

Just as in past years, the Indiana Department of Education has issued guidance for personal electronic
devices during testing. Students are to keep all cell phones, smart watches, and other devices not being
used for testing out of the testing room. Students will be asked to place these items in their lockers
during testing.
