Reflection Paper Assignment

This class made me realized I did not know everything about technology and computers as much

as I previously thought I did. I assumed I knew everything because I grew up using computers

and I understood how to do the simple tasks on it. I thought computers were easy and people that

did not know how to figure them out were too lazy to learn or really did not care about

technology. EDT 180 has proven to me that I really do not know everything when it comes to

computers and the applications within them. Computers and the Internet is a lot of material to

learn. I learned that there is more to computers than what I’ve always known. I am always

fascinated by the amount of technology I still have not learned and I am eager to learn even

more.

A program that has been most useful to me is the one I am currently using to write this essay.

Word has been in my life since I began to write papers and I have seen the changes of Word as it

has developed more and more. Word was always the easiest application I could use because it

was just to write text. Though Word makes me frustrated at times, it is still my favorite

application. EDT 180 has taught me more about Word than any other class. I know that this is

the first time in my life that a course has properly taught me how to use Word. When I was a

child, I was taught Word, but these were just the simple steps to write a paper. I discovered new

techniques through this class to make using Word easier to use.

I want to be an Elementary school teacher and I have been mentally preparing for the technology

I am going to be using in the classroom and just my life in general. Technology is frequently

evolving, and we must all learn these changes to be able to adapt to new technology. I have

grown up with multiple teachers that are unable to use a certain device because nobody has

trained them how to use the applications or they did not care to bother to learn the material. I

want my future students to receive the best education I can give them, and I do not want my lack

of education in technology to make them suffer.

This class has taught me about multiple applications used in Microsoft and Adobe that I will be

using in the future. If I found out before how easy Publisher was, I would have used that for

multiple projects before this class. I want to learn more about these applications, especially

Photoshop. These applications are all simple to use if you have proper instructions and the desire

to be involved with the Internet and technology. People that have trouble with these applications

often skip through instructions and then blame it on the technology. I want people to understand

that it is not as hard as you think, and it is actually very fun to learn.
