On October 23, Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia celebrated the grand opening of its 26th Street Project, the most
ambitious construction initiative at the University in four decades. The project includes Caruthers Hall, a 52,000 square-foot
academic facility focused on the sciences and health sciences; Rose Benté Lee Ostapenko Hall, a 77,000 square-foot residence
hall providing apartment-style housing for 239 students; and the Malek Family Plaza, an outdoor gathering space with café
seating between the two buildings. The complex is built over four levels of underground parking. The ribbon cutting was held
during Family Weekend, so that parents and family members could join their students at the celebration.

Marymount has incorporated sustainable design into this construction project, which participates in the U.S. Green Building
Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Green features include recycled and local materials
used in construction; innovative plumbing fixtures resulting in 21% less water consumption than comparable facilities; and
energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that use approximately 50% less energy, compared
with other similar facilities. For more information about the 26th Street Project or Marymount University, please visit

Mixing humor and heartbreak, Naturally Obsessed: The Making of a Scientist delves into the lab of charismatic professor Dr.
Lawrence Shapiro, and follows three irrepressible graduate students on their determined pursuit of a PhD and scientific
success. As if the pressure of scientific discovery isn’t enough, the students are also competing in a worldwide race to be the
first to publish their findings. Their challenge: to decipher the structure and mechanism of AMPK, a tiny protein that controls
the burning and storage of fat. Their road to success: years of trial and error, unflinching dedication, rock-climbing, rumors of
pickle juice, and the music of The Flaming Lips.
