TWO WAYS TO CHANGE MATTER:

UNDERSTANDING PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL

CHANGES OF MATTER

A REQUIREMENT

PRESENTED TO PROF. ARNOLD ASOTIGUE, LPT

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY

IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT

OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE SUBJECT

EDUC 107: PRINCIPLES AND METHODS

IN TEACHING

PRESENTED BY:

ABEDIN, ANNA ROCAYA D.

IBRAHIM, NORHANIMAH A.
A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 3

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the learners must have:

1. Describe the Physical changes and Chemical changes in matter.

2. Differentiate Physical and Chemical changes in matter.

3. Identify the process of changes in matter.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the effects of temperature in matter.

5. Expand the knowledge they have acquired from the previous lesson; Matter.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Title: Two ways to change matter: Understanding Physical and Chemical Changes of
Matter

References: The New Science Links: Worktext in Science; page 51-59

Materials: Laptop, Projector, Extension Wire, Manila Paper, Tape, Double-sided tape,
cartolina, Pictures or Flash Cards.

Values: Develop an understanding for the changes that matter undergo and use the
knowledge for future use and realize the changes could be good or bad, we have to avoid
the bad effects that might affect our health and environment.

III. PROCEDURE

A. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

Good Morning Class! Good Morning Teacher!

What day is today? Sunday!

And its another day to explore and learn new Yes, we are!
things, are you ready to learn?

Before we start let us have silent prayer (1 minute of silent praying)

because in this room we have diffrent religion,
so we must be silent, in order to not disturb the
others. Every body stand up and let us pray.
Ameen.

Let us have stretching activity so that we can (Following after the teacher)
grow taller. Starting from the head, arms, hips,
foot, stretch and then Inhale -Exhale.
Every body take your seat. So what was our It was state of matter.
lesson last meeting? Because it is related to our
topic today.

Very good! Yes, it is about matter and what is Matter is anything that occupies space and has
matter? mass.

Wonderful! Our lesson is related to matter, so Solid, liquid and gas.

what are the states of matter ?

What do you think our topic is today ? Changes of Matter.

Very good! You have read you book, meaning (Clapping 3 times)
you have done youR assignment, everybody
give her three claps.

Our topic today is Physical and Chemical

Changes in Matter.

B. LESSON PROPER

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

Presentation (Read the definition)

In projector or laptop with the definitions of

the physical and chemical changes of matter.

Motivation It is melting.

Show a picture of ice cream that is almost

melting. Anyone who knows what is
happening to the Ice cream?

Yes it is, and it’s an example of physical

change.

Showing examples of physical changes and its Listen to the teacher.

phase changes.

1.Melting

2.Freezing

3.Evaporation

4.Condensation

5.Sublimation

video for more definite example.

So what is the difference between physical and Physical is a change in the shape, color, form
and size. While chemical is a change in a
chemical changes? substance and breaks down and loses its
properties and a new substance is formed.

Open Forum. Ask question if they don’t understand the

discussion.

IV. EVALUATION

The following pictures that is an example of the changes must be taped to the
respective boxes and beside it the name of the change.

Physical change Chemical changes

2._____________-

3._____________-

4._____________-

5._____________-

Identify the following.

1.______________-liquid to gas.

2.______________-is a change in the form and shape.

3.______________-liquid to solid

4.______________-solid to liqiuid.

5.______________-is a change in the matter to another substance.

6.______________-solid to gas.

7.______________-gas to liquid.

V. ASSIGNMENT

I can do it!
Materials: Apple, Knife

1. Cut an apple into two parts.

2. Expose the apple to room temeprature. Observe.

3. After 10 min, observe what happens in the color?

What have you found out?

1. What happened to the inside color of the apple?

2. What caused the color change?

3. Did it change to a new substance?

Conclusion:

Did chemical change occur? How do you know?
