Hampton Elementary School

PTA Meeting Minutes


October 3, 2017, 7pm
Hampton Library

Present: Lisa Swoboda, Courtney Murphy, Colin Drane, Wanda Haskel, Nora Sigler, Cary Pierson, Denise D.
Kulikovsky, Jennifer Miller, Megan Britt, Christy Rowe, Michelle Damareck, Jennifer McCabe, Ashley Semesky, Julie
Culotta, Jessie Jaeger, Catherine Robbins, Patricia Kaiser, Madlyn Kroll, Rick Wade

Meeting convened by PTA President Lisa Swoboda; Pledge of Allegiance at 7pm, followed by introductions around
the room.

Treasurer’s Report (Colin Drane)


 Distributed budget summary. Current money in is $6,895; spent is $7,197,40.

Principal’s Report (Patricia Kaiser)


 Thanks for Back-to-School Picnic—liked lawn games and break-a-board activity.
 Current enrollment is 567.
 Ballroom dancing for 5 graders is this week.

 Conference Day is 10/20—no Play Centers.


 Spirit of Hampton information was sent to teachers so they can create wish lists available to American
Education week attendees.
 This year there will be comments on the 2 and 3 quarter report cards.

 Cafeteria is now selling cookies that can be pre-ordered at $12 for 21—are acceptable for class
parties/birthdays.

President’s Report (Lisa Swoboda)


 Reminder that there has been big turnover in the executive board, which means some hiccups at the
beginning (not helped by late start of school year).
 Files for all committees are now in the volunteer room; chairs should check them and add to them.
 Student Directory form response is low.
 Began Giant school rewards program—shoppers should activate their cards; have similar programs
through Shop Rite and AmazonSmile.

Membership (Nora Sigler)


 Current collection is $2,040 in dues; $2,953 in donations—that’s 30% from student body and 37 teachers.
 Ideas from assemblage to boost membership: tables at Fall Festival, New Parent Coffee and Tea, and
American Education Week (Mrs. Kaiser offered banner); reminder in newsletter; ask businesses if they
would offer discount with PTA card.

Teacher’s Report (Rick Wade)


 Science Night will be 1/25; STEM Maker Fair is 3/13.
 4 grade will do Days of Taste again with a different chef from last year—free program in three sessions,

including exploration of tastes, visit to One Straw Farm, and salad making activity.
 Thank you for TFK and Scholastic publications—great current events tools for teaching skills to students.

Volunteers (Megan Britt)


 Seasoned parents invited to New Parent Coffee and Tea to speak with new parents; set-up at 9am on
10/6.
 Good response to call for volunteers, especially for baking and general volunteering; low response for Joy
of Reading and Finer Diner.
 Consider volunteer training on machines in volunteer room.
 VP Fundraising is still an open position.

Communication (Courtney Murphy)


 Increased frequency and snazzed up facebook updates.
 PTA website needs ongoing maintenance.
 Showed new PTA display board—will be used to advertise and recruit.

Fundraising (Lisa Swoboda)


 PayPal on website can now take donations.
 BINGO fundraiser is out—need new ideas.
 Working on Fun Run.
 Joe Corbi order deadline extended to Friday.
 Will have another Rita’s Night 10/20, 5-9pm.
 Considering holiday fundraiser at 5Below.
 Birthday Book Club is selling well.

Community Outreach (Lisa Swoboda)


 Considering UNICEF small change collection boxes for Halloween.

Cultural Arts (Lisa Swoboda for Adrienne Hammel)


 Hosted Blue Sky Puppet Theater in September; Days of Taste scheduled for October; Fire safety assembly
is November—will again fill the boot with change.

Dolphin Depot (Cary Pierson)


 Application for management team and workers is being distributed; meetings to start 10/13 (tentatively);
store to open the week of 10/16 (tentatively).

Book Fair (Lisa Swoboda for Erin O’Brien)


 Fair is set for week of 10/23-27.
 Organizers went to training so received $1,000 in Scholastic materials for the school.

Fall Festival (Courtney Murphy)


 FF is 10/27, 5:30-8pm; vendors all booked.
 Sent out Sign-Up Genius for volunteers.
 New parent Julie Culotta will head up crafts.

Rec Clubs (Cary Pierson)


 Clubs began this week, with 84 kids signed up.
 Ms. Schnirel and Ms. Bollinger are doing morning check-in; still need a parent for afternoon check-in
(paid).
 Looking for feedback on programs.

Motion to adjourn meeting; motion seconded; meeting adjourned at 8:08pm.
