FOREWORD Electricity is a necessity in human’s dail i s ly activity. From the simplest household to the more elaborate dwellings, complex offices and even to the most sophisticated buildings, electricity is a basic need for human comfort The Electrical Layout and Estimate is the fourth volume of the author about construction. It was prepared for engineering students, master electricians, linemen and those interested in the art of electrical circuitry and construction of the distribution | lines. The book contains information of various wiring materi-° als, receptacles and accessories with tables of technical data for ready reference. Indeed, not only the basic underlying principles governing electrical layout were stressed but also the general- ized concept of good practice in circuitry was incorporated. Basically, the electric circuitry in a house or building com- prises the branch circuit, the feeder, and the main. The National Electrical Code provides that the branch circuit that supplies current to lighting and convenience outlets shall be of ample size and rating to carry the expected load. (t shall at all times be protected with an over current protection called fuse or circuit breaker. Thus, the basic approach to protect the circuitry is to know the load, the size of the wire and the rating of the fase or circuit breaker. That is where this book will come in to assist the reader. resented: roblems of circuitry from the small to adhe welings and commercial load sing Se ‘The fundamental process of nding ste 2 ee cuit, the feeder and the main including the #=: of =e fee themoneily gometel in dete ie a ee a protective device was given special : i Hy é i The second edition is the outcome of numerous suggestions _ Prompting improvement of the first edition.
