Effective Teaching Strategies
For many of us, teaching is a learned behavior, beyond our
professional studies. So long as we possess the desired personal attributes
and are prepared to try new things we can develop practices that will be
helpful in engaging the class. Effective teachers are always on the go for
new and exciting teaching strategies that will keep their pupils motivated and
engaged. There are a lot of new teaching strategies that are out there, all
you have to do is decide which strategies are right for your classroom.
Following are strategies well worth trying depending upon your style,
preference, and your pupils.
 Be punctual so that your pupils will follow your example.
 As the student enter the classroom greet them with their first name.
 Make sure that you are familiar with each of your pupils.
 Greet the class as a whole and begin with something such as, ―How
is everyone, today? Or how are you today?
 Don’t forget to ask if they have a problem with the pass lesson or in
their assignment.
 Don’t ignore pupils that are misbehaving during class hours.
 Try to compliment them individually and privately if they answer the
question or did a good thing.
 Ask the entire class an interesting general question that relates to the
topic under study.
 Create learning tasks appropriate to the student’s level of
understanding.
 To better engage the class, increase the amount of active learning in
class.
 avoid sitting passively at the teacher‘s desk; it is poor role modelling
for active, interested and alive team learning.
 Give the class the opportunity to work with others and see different
points of view.
 When doing the activity, circulate around the room assisting, talking to
and praising students one to one and in groups to develop their
personal attributes.
 When helping them avoid spoon feeding and let them think on their
own.
 Utilizing Technology in the Classroom.
