Dear Respected Judges,

I would like to begin by thanking all of you for taking time out of your day to judge my
Senior Project.
My name is Zahra Osman and my Senior Project is about Type 2 Diabetes and how it is
increasingly affecting the younger generation. Ever since my junior year, I wanted to do my
project about something related to diabetes. I chose this project because I got inspired by my
younger brother, even though he has Type 1 Diabetes, which has no cure. I wanted to research
how Type 2 Diabetes is becoming more prevalent in kids and how they can prevent themselves
from getting diabetes by leading a healthy lifestyle. From this I began my research and learned
more about the topic.
During the process of researching data through online sources, I was also interviewing
children and teens, using different books, meeting with my mentor, and taking the time to sit and
talk with Mrs.Sebik about certain ideas. I learned a lot of things. I was able to figure out that kids
should not left alone to make decisions for their health, parents have a responsibility to make the
right choices. I was able to learn more about type 2 diabetes, which was previously referred as
adult onset diabetes, but this was changed because of the growing epidemic in children. I was
able to learn how many can change their lifestyle and choose what is right for them. It also
helped me learn that before I go to others, I should always implement these choices in my life to
have a successful life.
