Exploration Activity: SDS & Student Organizations


1. What is your 3 letter Holland Code? Include their full names, not just
initials.
➢ My three letter Holland code is EIC, in which ‘E’ which stands for
Enterprising, ‘I’ which stands for Investigative, and ‘C’ which stands for
Conventional.

2. What characteristics are associated with each letter?


➢ Enterprising- As the name suggests are the people who have leadership,
communicating, convincing, and managing abilities. People with E in
their Holland code usually have a strong interest in money, leadership,
politics, handling, coordinating, and decision making. The career which
usually attracts Enterprising types are accounting, investment, business
executive, marketing, sales person, and manager. ‘E’ types tend to be
extrovert and loves to be around people
➢ Investigative- This type is associated with people who have strong
investigative, analytical, and research skills. The ‘I’ type are known for
having strong mathematical and science backgrounds. Contrary to E, I
type like problem solving, understanding things, and exploring rather
than persuading people. ‘I’ types usually associate themselves with a a
career in research fields, biologist, chemist, geologist, and lab technician.
‘I’ are usually described as logical, curious, introvert, and introverted.
➢ Conventional- Conventional types are the ones who like to work with
papers and numbers. ‘C’ types like to work with clear standards and
instructions and are good at following them too. We mostly find ‘C’ types
in profession like tax expert, banker, secretary, auditor, and bookkeepers.
They are typically described as practical, careful, thrifty, orderly, and
efficient.

3. What is the organization you chose? What do they do?


➢ The organisation that I choose is Purdue Marketing Association. Purdue
Marketing Association (PMA) is an undergraduate student organization
that works in direct relation to Purdue's Graduate Marketing Association,
Krannert Faculty, and Corporate Recruiters. PMA acts as a liaison
between our fellow classmates and corporate recruiters. They offer
exclusive consulting services for assistance in internship placement and
research opportunities.
➢ PMA provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to market
themselves among recruiters and to network with industry professionals.
➢ PMA often participate and attend: marketing conferences, marketing 360
events, case competitions, company/industry visits, networking events,
guest speakers, case studies, and career recruiting events.

4. How is EACH letter of your Holland Code a good fit for this organization?
Give specific examples drawn from both what the organization does and
your own personal life to support your answer.
➢ Enterprising:
▪ I think this organization perfectly matches my Enterprising type as I
like meeting new people and making new connections. And this
organization helps us in networking by promoting us to attend career
fairs, workshops, seminars, and case competitions.
▪ I would also love to join this organization as it will let me showcase
my skills of persuading, communicating, leadership, and coordination
by sending me case competitions, marketing competitions, and
marketing event.

➢ Investigative:
▪ Through this club I can exercise my investigative skills in case
competitions and events and marketing events.
▪ This club helps us to connect with recruiters and researchers and
promotes client-based projects and case competitions to sharpen my
Investigative skills.
▪ Personally, I have longed for working on a real big investigative
project and this clubs helps me to get in contact with the recruiters.
➢ Conventional
▪ Doing research with companies can often get mundane as it requires
you to do similar things over and over again with same accuracy, in a
similar case I can work well with it as I have the Conventional skill
type of being organised and doing the task with utmost accuracy. For
example, getting data about Corporations, researching about pricing,
finding trends in customers, etc.

5. In what ways will the activities and purpose of this organization help you
explore your major and career options?
➢ In the end, university is all about learning, exploring, meeting new people
and having fun, and this club is perfect for me as this allows me to do
each these things simultaneously.
➢ With this club I will be exposed to some of the best guest speakers in this
field which hep me to learn many quintessential lessons of life and the
field.
➢ This club will provide me the opportunity to practice the lessons of class
in the real world, provide me with much needed practical knowledge.
Additionally, it will give me an idea of how real careers work for me, so I
can get an idea of how it is to practice a certain major in real life.
