Good morning,
My name is Natalie Hood. Ms. Juleah Best mentioned that you may be interested in answering a couple of my
questions pertaining to my senior project. I am a senior within the Legal Studies Academy at First Colonial High School,
and my senior project is centered around the topic of Accessibility to Healthcare for Veterans. I have created a
symposium, called “Medics and Cadets,” for veterans and local JROTC cadets to attend while questions about the
healthcare system will be answered and recorded. The recorded symposium will be uploaded to the Library of Congress
for anyone to access. If you are still interested in answering a few of my questions or possibly attending the symposium

in pre-planning. I can answer questions about burial benefits but not health. Let me know if you need this aspect as well.

Lots of Veterans believe (wrongly) that because they are eligible to be buried in a Na onal Cemetery that their
funeral is taken care of. That is not the case. The cemetery only provides for the burial space and does NOT handle
the body from me of passing. Even if you want burial at sea a funeral home must coordinate all of that for you.

I work to plan the funeral or crema on and how the body will be handled. I coordinate with cemetery’s to provide
the burial space which might be the Veterans sec on in the cemetery where I work or somewhere else.

Do you happen to know how the burials and funerals are paid for? Are they covered by a certain type of insurance or are
there situations where the veteran's family must pay out of pocket?

Veteran or their family must ALWAYS pay for the full funeral costs. I specialize in helping them secure those
arrangements and ge ng it paid in advance so the financial burden does not fall to the family at the me.
