Teacher Directions:
This station can be a very simple
coin identification station where
students match the back (tails) of
a coin to its name and then record
on their recording sheet. You can
also add having them match the
front (heads) side of the coin
and/or the amount the coin is
worth to increase the difficulty.
This is a great sort to use in a
pocket chart. You can also print
multiple sets of the coins and play
memory with them or use them as
flash cards. I included a recording
sheet with all 6 coins as well as
one without the dollar coins.

Teacher Directions:
Print, cut, fold, and tape/glue the coin
dice together. You can laminate the
“Roll a Coin” mats so students can
colour the coins in as they roll them
with a dry erase marker to make the
mats reusable or you can simply have
students colour them in with crayons.
You can also have students use coin
manipulatives to cover each coin they
roll.

I have included 2 levels of this math

station. Level A practices only the
penny, nickel, dime, and quarter and
Level B practices those along with the
loonie and toonie. There is a
corresponding recording sheet to go
along with each level.

Teacher Directions:
These mats are simply for students to
sort coin manipulatives by what they
are. Give students a container of coins
and have them sort them as pennies,
nickels, dimes, quarters, loonies, or
toonies. I recommend only sorting 3 or 4
coins at a time but you can use more or
less to differentiate.

You could also print these out and use

them as posters where you write in
facts about the coin to display in the
classroom. You could brainstorm with
the class about each coin and what they
know about it. Write what they say to
create the posters together.

© Miss Giraffe
Sort the coins onto the
correct mat.

© Miss Giraffe
Teacher Directions:
Laminate and cut out these puzzles. I
made 2 levels of the puzzle. The easier
level is matching the front of each coin
with its name and value. The other set
also includes the back of the coin. Give
students the puzzle set you want them
to complete and the corresponding
recording sheet.

Kids simply match the pieces then show

their matches on their recording sheet.

Teacher Directions:
For this station, give students a
container of coin manipulatives. Have
them grab a handful of them or use a
small scoop of some sort to pick up a
good amount of coins where they have
enough to graph but not more than 6 or 7
of each coin.

Have them colour in the bar graph to

show their first grab. Then, you can also
have them do the other sheet that
describes their grab. If you do, you could
copy it double sided to go along with their
bar graph sheet so they can fill out the
sheet for both of their grabs. It’s great
coin identification AND graphing practice.

For students who struggle, have them do

just the bar graphing or only describe one
of their grabs with the second sheet.

Teacher Directions:
There are TWO different stations
here that you can use separately or
mix and match. The first set is
adding coins up to a dollar with
quarters. The second set has no
quarters (just dimes, nickels, and
pennies). You can also mix and
match these with the Adding Coins
station with like coins for a ton of
possible combinations so you can do Set 1
(w/ quarters)
this station many times with A. 41
different cards for a lot of B. 63
C. 56
practice. When you mix, as I said D. 24
E. 96
above, just make sure you have one F. 62
G. 49
card per letter on the recording H. 82
sheet (A-I or A-F). I. 38

Set 2
(no quarters)
Use the recording sheets from the A. 57
B. 19

D. 33
like coins. E. 26

Teacher Directions:
Laminate the piggy bank mats. Each child gets
their own piggy bank mat and a dry erase
marker. Have them take turns rolling the coin
dice and collecting that coin for their piggy
bank. They put it in their piggy bank and then
write on the line how much money they have.
Each time they get a new coin, they wipe their
old number and write in their new amount. This
is a ton of practice for counting coins! I
recommend having them race to a dollar using
the Level A dice first. There is no quarter so
they stay in cents for as long as possible for
maximum practice. For struggling students,
they could only race to 25 or 50 cents at a
time. I included 5 other levels of dice so you
can have students practice the coins you want
them to and/or to differentiate for the
different levels in your class. I also included
black and white mats to save on colour ink.

Teacher Directions:
Use the Level A dice from the piggy bank
station (with no quarters). Have students roll
that dice AND a regular dice (dots) at the same
time to figure out how many of each coin to
draw. For example, they could roll a 4 on the
regular dice and a dime on the coin dice so that
would tell them 4 dimes. On their recording
sheet, they would draw 4 circles and write D
(for dime) inside of the circles to show that
they are dimes (see the example on the
worksheet). After they draw them, they would
add them up to get 40 cents which they write in
the “Total” box. This is a lot of practice for
adding like coins. You could also use the Level B
dice to add in a quarter but this would make the
amounts they roll potentially go over a dollar.
To make this an adding mixed coins station and
more challenging, have them roll twice or three
times to get more coins to add together for
each line. For example, after they roll 4 dimes,
they might roll 3 nickels so then their line would
have (D)(D)(D)(D)(N)(N)(N) and their total
would be 55 cents.

Roll the coin dice AND a
regular dice.

It will tell you how many

of each coin to draw.

For example, if you roll

a 4 and a dime, you will
draw D D D D
then add them up to get
40cl which you will write
in the “TOTAL” box.

Teacher Directions:
This station is to practice real world
scenarios with word problems. Have
students match the 3 pieces of each
word problem (word problem, coin
representation, and the sum of the
coins). Then, they write the sum on
their recording sheet in the circle with
the letter that matches the word
problem card. You could have them just
match the coins to the sum, just the
word problem to the sum, etc. to
differentiate however you’d like.

You could also give students coin

manipulatives to build the word
problems first then find the coin card
that matches and then find the sum.
