Dice.
~~HAPPY BUCKS~~
John and MarySue Erickson
offered four bucks for the TGIF
party held at Bill Eames home
last Friday night. A highlight of the
evening for John was a lengthy
discussion about various brands of
toilet paper.
Linda May was happy about the
visit of her daughter, Kristin this
weekend with her Friend from
Tasmania. Frank and Linda had a
great time showing then around
San Francisco.
Frank May offered a happy buck
for the help of John Erickson in
constructing some shelves in his
garage. (I must say, John taught
me a thing or two! – ed.)
Brian South was happy about the
performance of the Sharks against
the Golden Knights this week.
Anniversaries
Dianne and Clyde Wilson
celebrated their 37th wedding
anniversary with a dinner at Pier
29 in Alameda. Dianne likes the
fact that Clyde is flexible and
creative and willing to help with
whatever she is doing. She thinks
that Clyde does not always like the
fact that she is on the go and
always doing something.
Ron Mucovich announced that he
and Yelena celebrated their 34th
wedding anniversary with a dinner
at the grill in Rossmoor. Ron
stated that the thing he liked best
about Yelena was that her mother
lived in Michigan. Yelena, on the
other hand, did not like that his
mother lived in Moraga!! Ron likes
Yelena’s understanding and
assistance with his many projects.
Yelena thinks that Ron has way
too many projects and irons in the
fire.
~~ANNOUNCEMENTS~~
E-Waste
The E-Waste event will be held
this Saturday April 27. The first
shift starts at 9:30 AM and ends at
1PM. The second shift starts at 1
and ends at 4PM.
Bocce Ball
Angelo Costanza announced that
the courts are in great shape and
planning is going well for the
Bocce Ball Tournament to be
played on May 11. Players should
send a check to Lad by April 30 for
$20 to participate.
Angelo has tentatively arranged
for a practice session to be held
on May 3rd at 9AM at the Bocce
Courts in Martinez. Let Angelo
know if you are interested in
sharpening your skills before the
competition.
Athletic Field Day
The Athletic Field Day will be held
on Wednesday May 8th. A signup
sheet was passed around at the
meeting today. Please put this
event on your calendar as we
need everyone’s help in making
the event a success. Contact
Tony Schoemehl to sign up to
help with this event.

~~PROGRAM~~
Our speaker this week, Jack Dice,
was introduced by Debbie
Roessler. Jack has lived in
Moraga since 1971 and is retired
from his careers in the
construction business and as a
packaging sales manager. He
currently works with a local
organization that delivers food to
the needy called “The Muffin
People”.

Our Club Business Group will

meet at the Serbian Church on
4/25 beginning at 11:30 AM. Our
speaker will be Steve Danziger
from the Board of Directors of the
Moraga Orinda Fire Department
discussing major objectives
dealing with fire safety.

Reservations for this celebration
are coming in fast. Debbie
Roessler asked that everyone at
least let her know if they plan to
attend to make sure of your place
at the table.

The raffle this week
was won by President
Ron Mucovich who hit
the jackpot of $186.
Ron’s Lucky Day!!
Jack Dice from The Muffin People
Essentially this group of
volunteers picks up food from local
stores and delivers it to
organizations that distribute food
to those that need it.
Donors include Safeway, Whole
Food, Trader Joe’s, Starbucks,
SusieCakes, Lunardi’s and Diablo
Foods.
The food is delivered to St,
Vincent DePaul, St. Mary’s
Center, A Friendly Manor and the
Emeryville Community Assistance
Program (ECAP).
Jack also described the Soup to
Serve program at St, Monica’s
here in Moraga. This program
prepares gallons of soup every
Friday and distributes it through
the Catholic Worker organization.
Part of the year, sandwiches
substitute for the soup.
Jack described his partnership
with Beckman’s Bread to make
day old product available for
distribution.

“Real Happiness Is Helping
Others”
Every year since 1949, The President of
Rotary International selected an annual
theme which in some way emphasized the
personal philosophy or interests of the
President. The theme I picked in 1992-93
was “Real Happiness Is Helping Others.”
The annual theme is usually worked into
speeches, writings, and other messages
throughout the year.
Occasionally, I “quoted” an old Chinese
proverb, which I am certain never had an
Oriental origin! The proverb was stated this
way:
If you want happiness for an hour – take a
nap.
If you want happiness for a day – go
fishing.
If you want happiness for a week – take a
vacation.
If you want happiness for a month – get
married.
But, if you want happiness all your life – it
will only
happen by helping others!
That, in my opinion, is the real opportunity
for every Rotarian. There are so many ways
that we can bring happiness to those who
live in our own community. At the same
time we can reach around the world and
improve the lives of people we have never
met nor will never know.
Helping others is really the translation of
Rotary’s primary motto – “Service Above
Self.”
