Course Number & Title: ME 94 (Energy Management in Buildings)

Course Description: An elective course that deals with energy audit program for buildings and
facilities, initiating energy management program, guidelines for methods
of reducing energy usage in each area in buildings, conservation of
energy in the planning, design, installation, utilization, maintenance and
modernization of the mechanical systems in the existing and new
building, utilization of microcomputer in the energy management and in
automatic controls of air conditioning and ventilation systems in building,
and case study of energy saving in buildings.
Course Credits: 3 units
Course General Objective: At the end of the course, the student must be able to be able to
to conduct energy audit in buildings and to present the most efficient
solution or alternative in order to reduce the energy consumption of
buildings.
Contact hours/week: 3 hours lecture
Pre-requisite: 4th Year Standing

Vision: Central Mindanao University strives as a center of excellence in instruction and


relevance in research, extension and production in various fields of specialization.

Mission: The Central Mindanao University as an institution of higher learning, shall strive for
excellence in instruction, research and extension. It shall train and equip its graduates
with competencies for entrepreneurship and employment in development agencies
and agro-industrial enterprises to bring about the change and improvement in the
quality of life of the deprived, disadvantage and underserved sectors in Mindanao.

The University shall promote quality and competence in teaching, provide adequate
instructional facilities, generate and apply knowledge to solve practical problems
obtaining in its service area.

Goals of the College:

A. Continuous provision of comprehensive, dynamic, relevant and development-oriented


instructions in agricultural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering and closely related
disciplines.

B. Development and promotion of locally appropriate engineering technologies and information


systems needed by the agricultural-fishery, industrial and manufacturing sectors.

C. Evaluation, packaging and dissemination of mature engineering technologies to stimulate


agro-industrial activities in Mindanao.

1.To continuously provide dynamic, relevant and comprehensive instructions for A B C
both degree and non-degree programs in mechanical engineering

2. To consistently produce technically competent mechanical engineers
particularly in areas of heat and power, machine design, and refrigeration and
air conditioning systems to support the agro-industrial development program

of the country.
3. To actively engage in research and extension activities to develop, package,   
and disseminate mature mechanical engineering technologies in Mindanao.

Grading System

Midterm Grade = 45% Quizzes + 40% Midterm Exam + 10% Written Report + 5% Class
Participation

Final term Grade = 50% Oral & Written Report + 45% Quizzes + 5% Class Participation

Final Grade = 1/3 MTG + 2/3 FTG

Passing Grade = 3.0

Conditional Grade = 3.1 – 4.09

Failing Grade = 4.1 – 5.0

Passing Score = 50% of the total points of the exams

Classroom Policies

1. Observe silence and orderliness during classes.


2. Student is entitled for a special exam when he/she can present an excuse slip duly signed by the
college secretary.
3. Students who will incur 20% unexcused absences of the total class hours after the midterm will be
given a grade of dropped provided he/she has a passing midterm grade and a grade of dropped
when within the midterm period.
4. Student should observe the university dress code and conduct (see student handbook)
5. Student who will enter the class 15 minutes after the start of the class will be marked absent.
6. Anyone caught cheating on examinations, reports, plates or design means a grade of 5.0 on the
particular examination and report.
