COURSE OBJECTIVE
CO2 Apply the analytical techniques to analyze and solve many related elasticity problems in
selected structural members. [PO3,LO3,SS1] {C4,P4}
Plan, design and report both numerical and laboratory experiments in engineering
CO3
problems. [PO10, LO4,]
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is a continuation of mechanics of materials. It offers more analytical and experimental
approaches, giving a more generalized treatment of the stress and strain. Numerical and experimental
techniques in stress analysis are also introduced in solving more advanced structural members.
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
Lectures are given to cover the basics principles of each topic. Reading materials and relevant examples
will be provided. Individual homework on related topics will be assigned on a regular basis while tests and
quizzes may also be given upon completion of several topics.
Applications of the theory will be demonstrated during laboratory sessions and further expanded via special
assignments and project works.
