FOREWORD 0.1 This Indian Standard (Second Revision) ‘was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards ‘on 16 December 1987, after the draft finalized by the Pig Iron and Cast Iron Sectional Committee had been approved by the Structural and Metals Division Council 0.2 Thisstandard was first published in 1961 and subsequently revised in 1975. In this revision, the following modifications have been made: a) Material to be used in the manufacture of fittings have been made more specific; b) A clause on ‘terminology’ has been added; ©) Provisions on ‘chamfering’ have been included; 4) Amendments issued have been suitably incorporated; ©) An attempt has been made to align the provisions of this standard with ISO 49- 1983 ‘Malleable cast iron fittings threaded to ISO 7/1, issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO); Alltheten partshave been merged into one standard. General requirements have been dealt within Section 1 of the standard and the specific requirements of the various fittings have been given in Sections 2 to 10; and, 1. SCOPE, L1This standard covers requirements for following types of malleable cast iron pipe fittings" threaded in accordance with IS: 594-1975" for general purposes for the transmission of fluid and gas upto the limit of pressure and temperature specified in 1.3: a) Elbows including twin elbows, union elbows and side outlet elbows, b) Tees including pitcher tees and side outlet tees, ©) Crosses, “Dimensions Tor pipe threads where pressure tight joints are required on the threads (send raisin ) Values have been given in SI Units only. 0.3.1t_ may be noted that the dimensions specified in this standard are only those that fare essential for interchangeability. Other dimensions are left to the discretion of the ‘manufacturer depending on the end use of the fittings. In order to assist the manufacturer to supply the exact requirements, purchaser may furnish full details, such as service pressure, temperature and other particulars relating to the end use of the fittings, 0.4 Hlustrations used throughout this standard are diagrammatical, that is, the form of reinforeement and the design of the female ends, have been shown for the purpose of illustration only. 0.5 This edition 3.8 incorporates Amendment No. 1 (April 1991), Amendment No. 2 (Decomber 1992), Amendment No. 3 (January 1994), Amendment No. 4 (May 1994), Amendment No. 5 (October 1996), Amendment. No. 6 (April 2001), Amendment No. 7 (November 2003) and Amendment No. 8 (March 2006).
