Self-Reflection

This semester in WRTC103, I have learned a lot about writing that I did not know before. I

often used contractions before this class, I know realize that my writing is better without them. I

also did not use signal phrases when integrating a quote. I see the error of my previous ways,

resulting in a quote with no introduction and no purpose. Learning these lessons, along with

many more, it will lead me to do well in other classes throughout my college career and beyond.

Writing is fundamental to all classes and to all career path options, so learning how to write

efficiently and clearly is important to being successful. Proper grammar, punctuation, and

writing techniques can bring one’s writing to another level. Throughout the semester writing

difficulties have presented themselves and I have had to overcome, for me this consists of

constantly referring to APA style citations. To conquer these challenged, I often referred to The

Bedford Guide for College Writers with Reader Research Manual, and Handbook and A Pocket

Style Manual. I referenced these works when I needed clarification on grammar and writing

etiquette. For my strengths, I would say I can vary my vocabulary and sentence structure fairly

well. Starting my sentences differently and using synonyms of words instead of repeating them is

something I think I do when writing. Things I need to work on would definitely include the use if

commas; I often have comma splices in my work and I still do not completely understand what

they are, despite my research on them. Overall, this course has improved my techniques and
strategies as a writer and I will continue to use what I learned in this class throughout my college

years and will build on these skills.
