Information Technology Degree Programme is using a database called Webinssi to help

managing final year project. It allows students to make a suggestion for a final year
project topic and keep track of the process while their project work goes on. It also allows
the student’ s final year project supervisors to follow progress of the work.

How to proceed?
• Get a suitable topic.
o If you are working for a company, ask your employer if there are any
opportunities to do your final year project on a topic which is also in the
interests of the company.
o If you are self employed, try to match your topic with needs of potential
customers.
o If you are more academically oriented, please discuss with the teaching staff
of Metropolia about your idea.
o If you do not find a topic, do not hesitate to ask from the teaching staff. We
have plenty of ideas and too few students to work on them, because funds
to hire interns are very limited.
• Discuss with potential lecturers/principal lecturers to find someone who would
become your final year project supervisor.
• Go to http://webinssi.edu.metropolia.fi,
o Use your Metropolia username and password to login.
o Change the language to English from the link on the top left hand side.
o Fill in the form as applicable. You may leave the supervisor field open, if you
do not know who that will be yet.
o Submit the completed form for inspection.
• You will be notified by email when the topic of your final year project is approved.
