Shock after man found
with stab wounds

Neighbours have expressed
their shock and fear after a stab-
bing in Tonbridge.
Police were called to Angel Lane,
just after 6am on Sunday, where a
man in his 20s was found with stab
wounds.
Paramedics rushed to the scene
to treat the victim before he was
taken to Kings College Hospital in
London.
His condition is not known and
no arrests have been made.
A large area was cordoned off for
the morning while an investiga-
tion was carried out.
The section of Angel Lane by the
Angel Walk Shopping Centre near
the Sainsbury’s car park was also
closed off.
Forensic investigators trawled
the area.

into tackling ‘this big issue’
Kent County Council will set up
a committee to tackle the rise in
knife crime after several attacks in
recent weeks.
Councillors will look at what
more can be done by public
bodies to reduce the number of
knife-related crimes in the county.
This comes after three stabbings
were reported over the weekend.
On Friday evening a man was
airlifted to a London hospital after
a serious incident in Herne Bay.

He said: “I always thought Ton-
bridge was a lovely place but it
does seem there’s a lot going on in
the background that you don’t
really see at face value.
“There’s been three stabbings in
Tonbridge on Saturday morning.
And in the early hours of
Sunday, police were called to
Harbour Parade in Ramsgate after
a man in his 20s was attacked.
Official statistics revealed Kent
has seen the fastest rise in knife
crime in the country.
The number of offences has
increased by 152 per cent since
2011, from 346 to 873.
In response, Kent Police
launched a campaign called
Operation Sceptre which led to
250 weapons being seized and
a month. I don’t know what’s going
on. It never used to be like this.

“It’s more worrying because it’s
right in the town centre.”
Connor Simms and Daisy Chat-
field, both 19, live in Angel Lane.
Their flat looks over the Sains-
bury’s car park and the area that
was cordoned off.
Mr Simms said: “We were stay-
ing away. There’s a little bit of trou-
ble here and there but it’s not too
bad.”
Miss Chatfield added: “It’s pretty
scary. You shouldn’t be afraid in
front of your own house.
“We did hear a while ago that
there was also a knife incident by
the railway station. I remember
seeing something on the internet
that someone was running around
threatening people with a knife.
“We get the train quite a lot too
and come back quite late, so that
was quite scary.”

Council leader Paul Carter said:
“This is a big and important issue.
“The Conesrvative group is
totally behind an urgent select
committee.
“The basic subject matter for
that will be knife crime in Kent,
could we be doing more across all
public agencies. If so, what?
“It would turn into the actions
we could implement to help keep
young people safe and start to see
a reduction in the horrific increase
in knife crime.”
Police investigate a stabbing
in Tonbridge town centre Boy, 16, is
arrested for
possession
A boy, 16, was arrested at Tonbridge
railway station carrying a knife, the night
before a stabbing.
The teen was stopped after trying to
evade police officers last Friday.
He was found to be carrying a kitchen
knife and was later charged with
possession of a knife in a public place.
The teenager was bailed to appear
before Medway Magistrates’ Court on
April 30.
This arrest came just hours before a
separate incident, where a man in his 20s
was stabbed near the Angel Walk
Shopping Centre in Tonbridge.
Sgt Ash Boxall, of the Tonbridge
Community Policing Team, said: “We are
continually working in partnership with
other law enforcement agencies such as
British Transport Police and neighbouring
forces to also prevent and disrupt those
involved in knife crime.”
