High Torque Drive Rod (SLHT) Rod Introduction-HUAMING
High Torque Drive Rod (SLHT) Rod Introduction-HUAMING
Jan. 2019
Conventional API Standard Sucker rods were designed more suitable for use with reciprocating beam pumps,
the design of the sucker rods connection only bears alternating load without thinking about torque issues.
With the application and promotion of the Progressing Cavity Pump (PCP) production, the sucker rods are
required to increase the high torsional loading in PCP application. Therefore, the standard API sucker rod
connection design is deficient to meet the requirements of modern customers. In response, Highland
developed the torsional SLHT® Rod suited to the type of stresses found in PCP applications based on the
interchangeability, convenience and practicality.

Take SLHT® Rod Material A41XX 1” Pin 7/8” as an example, the torsional test result as following:
Due to oil production characteristics of PCP, large section is easy to wear in the oil well. The use of
downsizing coupling connection reduces the cross-section area of the rod string, decreases the motion
resistance, increases the annular space size of the tubing and decreases friction between the outer diameter
of the coupling and the inner wall of the tubing, thus reducing tubing failure.
However, high requirements for thread torsion resistance are put forward, so we developed the SLHT® high
strength slim hole extened coupling (non-standard) to comprehensively solve the above problems.
