MONARCHY IS BEST

This article tends to explain to the readers on what government is best, Government is the means
by which state policy is enforced, as well as the mechanism for determining the policy of the state. A
form of government, or form of state governance, refers to the set of political institutions by which a
government of a state is organized according to Thomas Hobbes an English political philosopher there
are many types of political and economic systems among the patterns of the world. Hobbes set out his
doctrine of the foundation of states and legitimate governments and creating an objective science of
morality. He described three (3) different forms of government he explains that sovereign power can rest
in the hands of one person (monarchy), several (aristocracy) or all (democracy) these tree forms of
government it is also called the three kinds of commonwealth. Monarchy is a form of government in
which a single family rules from generation to generation. The power, or sovereignty, is personified in a
single individual. Aristocracy refers to the rule by elite citizens, a system of governance in which a
person who rules in an aristocracy is an aristocrat. It has come to mean rule by “the aristocracy” who are
people of noble birth. Democracy is defined as a form of government in which power belongs to the
people, all eligible citizens have direct participation in the decision making of the government. Citizens
also exercise their power through elected representatives. The elected representatives propose, develop,
and create laws for the citizens to abide by. The commonwealth is instituted when all agree in the
following manner: I authorize and give up my right of governing myself to this man, or to this assembly
of men, on this condition; that thou give up, thy right to him, and authorize all his actions in like manner.
It means that in any form of government using in a certain country all the citizens had this kind of
manner of giving up all the right under one person, in several or all, whom they chose to lead their
society everything that goes under their term must be obey. The difference between these three kinds of
commonwealth consist nit in the difference of power but in the difference of convenience or aptitude to
produce the peace and security of the people for which end they were instituted. But among those forms
Hobbes has a clear preference for the efficiency of monarchical rule. He believes that the human kind is
fundamentally in a state of war or mutual conflict and can preserved itself by surrendering is natural
right and liberty of an absolute sovereign. The sovereign is the one who exercise supreme power. So the
greatest of human power is that which is compounded of the power of the men united by the consent of
one person natural or civil that has the use all of their powers depending on his will such as the power of
a common wealth. Therefore to have servants is power, to have friends is power also riches joined in
liberality is power. He demonstrates the necessity of a strong central authority to avoid the evil
and civil war. In such a state, people fear death, and lack both the things necessary
to commodious living, and the hope of being able to obtain them. So in that in the nature of man we
find three principle of quarrel first is the competition, makes men invades for gain, they make violence
to make themselves masters of other men’s person, secondly is diffidence, for their safety or how to
defend themselves and thirdly is glory it is for trifles as a word a different opinion or any other sign of
under value. So it manifest that, during that time men live without a common power they are all in that
condition which is called war. And there is no way for any man to secure himself so reasonable as
anticipation that is always by force or to masters the person of all men he can so long till he see no other
power is great enough to endanger him. Hobbes believed that government exists to keep its citizen well
behaved. So in order to have an efficient government system, there must be a ruler who has absolute
power over the society. This ruler would be unable to be underthrown any circumstances. Thomas
Hobbes favored monarchy because decision could be made directly when needed. When a council exists
people will argue constantly over issues that are meanwhile remaining unsolved. When a king is in
power, as soon as he demands a change, his plan goes into action and the problem is solved
immediately, making it easier to control its citizen. That’s why Thomas Hobbes believes that Monarchy
is best. A consequent to a time where man is enemy of every man is the same wherein men live without
other servility but with their own strength and their own invention. It means that if there is war, people
cannot trust anybody for the protection of himself or his family. He only leaves the security by himself
only. Because if there is war man having a tendency to invade and destroy one another so that in the first
place all mankind perpetual and restless desire of power causes only in death, and the cause of this is not
always that a man hopes for a more or intensive delight than he has already attained to, or that he cannot
be content with moderate power, but because he cannot assure the power and means to live well when
he has present without the acquisition of more, because if there is no government or person that leads the
country all man aims to have more power for them to continue their lives because they believed that
without power all man is nothing. Hobbes invites us to consider what life would be like in a state of
nature, that is, a condition without government. Perhaps we would imagine that people might fare best in
such a state, where each decides for herself how to act, and is judge, jury and executioner in her own
case whenever disputes arise—and that at any rate, this state is the appropriate baseline against which to
judge the justifiability of political arrangements. Hobbes terms this situation “the condition of mere
nature”, a state of perfectly private judgment, in which there is no agency with recognized authority to
arbitrate disputes and effective power to enforce its decisions. But Hobbes believes that monarchy is the
best form of government because if there is only one person who has a power to lead and decide on the
country there will be no conflict against its citizen. Hobbes described monarchy as attractive for being
an efficient way of leading a political society, if the society trusts the monarch. Because democracy, by
contrast, seems to be remarkably inefficient at carrying out a political decision, since beliefs and ideals
must be negotiated among many differing opinions. But in monarchy everything depends on the beliefs
and ideals of one person which is the monarch. In other words, only the monarch must be persuaded
about the right course of action. In monarchy citizen of the country must correctly assess and select a
good monarch, and one whom the society can put its trust in, then Hobbes believes that monarchy seems
to be as good as any other form of government.

Hobbes come up with this conclusion and has his own basis on his published book The
Leviathan. His work concerns the structure of society and legitimate government, and is regarded as one
of the earliest and most influential examples of social contract theory. It argues that civil peace and
social unity are best achieved by the establishment of a commonwealth through social contract. Hobbes's
ideal commonwealth is ruled by a sovereign power responsible for protecting the security of the
commonwealth and granted absolute authority to ensure the common defense. In his introduction,
Hobbes describes this commonwealth as an "artificial person" and as a body politic that mimics the
human body. Hobbes portrays the commonwealth as a gigantic human form built out of the bodies of its
citizens, the sovereign as its head. Hobbes calls this figure the "Leviathan," a word derived from the
Hebrew for "sea monster" and the name of a monstrous sea creature appearing in the Bible; the image
constitutes the definitive metaphor for Hobbes's perfect government. His text attempts to prove the
necessity of the Leviathan for preserving peace and preventing civil war. For which end they were
instituted. And to compare monarchy with the other two, we may observe: first, that whosoever beareth
the person of the people, or is one of that assembly that bears it, beareth also his own natural person.
And though he be careful in his politic person to procure the common interest, yet he is more, or no less,
careful to procure the private good of himself, his family, kindred and friends; and for the most part, if
the public interest chance to cross the private, he prefers the private: for the passions of men are
commonly more potent than their reason. From whence it follows that where the public and private
interest are most closely united, there is the public most advanced. Now in monarchy the private interest
is the same with the public. The riches, power, and honor of a monarch arise only from the riches,
strength, and reputation of his subjects. For no king can be rich, nor glorious, nor secure, whose subjects
are either poor, or contemptible, or too weak through want, or dissension, to maintain a war against their
enemies; whereas in a democracy, or aristocracy, the public prosperity confers not so much to the
private fortune of one that is corrupt, or ambitious, as doth many times a perfidious advice, a treacherous
action, or a civil war.

But on my own understanding I am in the contrast on what Hobbes believed about monarchy is
best, after reading this article I had realized that in monarchy all important is power and the person
ruling over the country decide according to his own will without the consent of his countrymen. A
monarchy is a form of government in which total sovereignty is invested in one person, a head of state
called a monarch, who holds the position until death or abdication. Monarchs usually both hold and
achieve their position through the right of hereditary succession it means that if the king or queen died,
the power to elect for the next king or queen is depend on the people that they were related with, usually
the son or daughter, of the previous monarch although there have been elective monarchies, where the
monarch holds the position after being elected. I’m in favor of democracy In a democracy every person
has equal rights to vote for his leader. If he thinks his current leader is not good or his works are
unsatisfactory, he has the choice to change leadership. There is room for opposition. Every person has
equal rights. And power is not vested in only one person or family. In a dictatorship, every citizen
doesn't have equal rights. The dictator gives selective rights to those who he deems necessary and not a
threat to him and his powers. You cannot change him and he does whatever he likes. People don't have
any say in government. Only those who are given some sort of power who can give him something back.
But in democracy people can exercise their right, their natural right, or privileges and basic freedoms
people were entitled to simply because of their existence. Because all of us needs to have the right to
decide about ourselves and of what is happening in the society that we belong. But we must consider
every law that the government must enforced because we have an obligation to obey the rules of the
government. That’s why for me democracy is better than monarchy because in democracy it practices to
have an equal treatment over its whole citizen and given each of them their rights as a citizen of the
country.
