The present Odiongan National High School is the latest name in the nomenclature metamorphosis of a school that was conceived by a combination of resourcefulness, affluent imagination and snap venture on the part of its founder. The establishment almost fizzled out were not for the determination of the late Municipal Mayor Oscar B. Ylagan, upon his assumption to office on 01 January 1968. Originally, the school was supposed to be a municipal high school but the application for its establishment was vetoed by then MECS-Division of Romblon authorities. Unfiltered by the taunting setback, the proponents nevertheless persisted. Fortunately, they stumbled upon the provision in the administrative code that authorized the establishment of a high school anytime, anywhere in the province. The proponents then sought the assistance of the Provincial Governor Jovencio Q. Mayor who was too enthusiastic at the idea. Immediately, the Provincial Board of Romblon unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the opening of this school and Mr. Candido M. Montojo, was designated as its first School Administrator from 1970-1976. However, it was only in June 1970 that the school formally opened and admitted enrollees and named as Odiongan National High School, which was subsequently changed to Romblon Provincial High School. As recorded, the past Administrators of the school were Hemenegildo A. Javier (1977-1981), Consuelo G. Fetalver (1981- 1982), Florelio M. Faigao (1982-1989), Shirley A. Parco (1989- 1991), Lucrecia T. Fosana (1991-2006) and Liberty C. Galindez (2006-2010). With the enactment by congress of Republic Act No. 6655, rationalization of all Government Public Secondary Schools, the school became known as Romblon National High School- Odiongan as distinguished from Romblon National High School located in the capital town of Romblon, Romblon. An extension school was established starting at school year 2007-2008 at Barangay Mayha, Odiongan, Romblon and later named as MAYHA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL-ODIONGAN NHS EXTENSION. On September 02, 2010 of School Year 2010-2011, the Special Science Class (SSC) was implemented; one section was organized per grade level. The school utilizes and implements the K to 12 Basic Education Program (BEP) starting School Year 2012-2013. It was during School Year 2013-2014 where the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) was put to operation. It was School Year 2014-2015 that the Special Program in Sports (SPS) was also introduced by the ONHS Administration. The renaming of Romblon NHS-Odiongan to Odiongan National High School was realized by virtue of Republic Act No. 10333 signed into law by HE Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III on 15 November 2012, as authored in Congress by honorable Eleandro Jesus Fabic “BUDOY” Madrona, Congressman, Lone District of Romblon.
