Here it is, the application form for the 2018 Red Bull Music Academy in Berlin. As you can probably
tell already, the application form is long. But it isn’t supposed to be a huge headache to fill out.
Instead it’s designed to give you the opportunity to present yourself as honestly as possible.
Besides, nothing worthwhile ever took just five minutes.
After you’re done filling in the answers, don’t forget to also put together an accompanying musical
demo that is no longer than 30 minutes. Every application must have one. If you make music, send
us something you produced, wrote, played or sang on. If you’re a DJ, send us a bedroom mix that’s
30 minutes long at maximum. Whatever you do, our suggestion is to put the best tracks first and
include just enough material to get the point across. We want to get a feel for where you’re at
creatively, and a strong vision will always be more important than a polished sound.

If you have ever applied for the Academy before, you will notice that one part of the process can
be done differently this year. This year, you have the option to either a) send us your music on an
audio CD (no data files please), or b) simply upload your demo at apply.redbullmusicacademy.com.

If you decide to upload your demo, you will also be asked to fill out some of your personal details
online. The rest of the application form will then need to be printed, filled out and sent by post,
as usual.

Before you get started, please read through this checklist:

Please make sure your application is complete and postmarked by September 4, 2017.
We do not even open applications postmarked after this date.


Due to local laws, you need to be 18 years of age by September 8, 2018 to be eligible
for the Academy in Berlin. In exceptional circumstances, we may consider applications from
persons born after September 8, 2000, but proof of consent of parents or legal guardian will then
be required in any event.


Include two different photos of yourself in the application. One should be passport-sized,
with your face clearly visible, and one should be a regular snapshot. Write your name and country
legibly on the back of the photos.


You have the option to upload your demo, which must be 30 minutes or less, along with your
personal data, at redbullmusicacademy.com/apply

 If you send your music by post instead of uploading it, make sure your CD is an audio CD that is
playable in a standard CD player. We can’t consider data CDs.


Unfortunately we can’t send your CD back. But don’t worry: We won’t share it with anyone
but the application jury or use it for anything but the selection process. The same applies to any
music that you upload.


Please write out the track list for your CD or demo on a separate sheet of paper and include it
with the printed application.


Lectures and workshops at the Academy are held in English, therefore the application form
needs to be filled out in English too, by you and no one else.


In order to create an open, diverse musical environment for participants, we don’t invite bands
to the Academy. One person, one application.


We are not worried about poor grammar or spelling mistakes.
Don’t worry about your sloppy
handwriting too much, EXCEPT when it comes to your contact details. It’ll make it a lot easier for
us to get
in touch with you if you have been selected as one of the participants for 2018.


We cannot accept any half-completed questionnaires (in fact, we throw them away), so please
make sure you answer each
and every question on there.



We can only accept your application if you are NOT an employee of Red Bull or any Red Bull
affiliate; and you are NOT involved in the creation, administration or execution of Red Bull Music
Academy in any other way.


Please bear in mind that applications might take a while to arrive (sometimes even weeks).
In order to make sure that your application arrives before we finish the applications process and
announce the participants, we highly recommend to send it
as early as possible.


In case you need to fill out any tax or customs form when posting your application, please
make sure to highlight that the contents of the package are application documents with NO
commercial value. Unfortunately we cannot cover any tax or customs duty if it's charged on
application packages.

Unfortunately, we cannot return any material we receive, so you may want to keep a copy of
whatever you submit for yourself. We also cannot provide individual feedback. But please sleep
soundly in the knowledge that all entries will be thoroughly considered by at least two different
people from different backgrounds.

We are not responsible for lost, blocked, late, incomplete, misdirected applications or
communication or entries or communication not received regardless of cause, unless we have
acted negligently in this context.

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION
& DATA PROTECTION

1.) We respect your right to privacy. In the following, the term “Personal Data” describes all data
kept in connection with your application and participation in this year’s Red Bull Music Academy.

2.) Red Bull may process your Personal Data itself, within the Red Bull Group or through outside
data processors who will process data on its behalf in accordance with all relevant data
protection regulations.

3.) Red Bull and its affiliated companies will, as a general policy, not transmit Personal Data to
third parties without your explicit consent. You herewith consent, that your Personal Data can be
transmitted, stored and used by the Yadastar GmbH, with registered offices at Boisseréestrasse
9-11, 50674 Cologne, Germany, the official organizing partner of Red Bull for the Red Bull Music
Academy. In particular, Personal Data will not be sold, leased or traded. However, in cases in which
Red Bull is required to transmit Personal Data to an outside data processor, jury or other partner
of Red Bull in connection with the Red Bull Music Academy, Red Bull will only transmit as much
Personal Data as is necessary in order to fulfill its tasks related to the Red Bull Music Academy.

In such cases, Red Bull will require and make sure that our partners treat all Personal Data in
a confidential manner and according to all relevant data protection regulations as well as to delete
such Personal Data immediately as soon as their specific tasks have been fulfilled in connection
with the Red Bull Music Academy. Please note that Red Bull does not have complete control over
the compliance with this obligation and that Red Bull cannot be held responsible for possible
infringements by its partners to the extent that it is legally permissible.

4.) If you are accepted as a Red Bull Music Academy participant, Red Bull will use your Personal
Data and other details provided in the application form to create a biography and other promotion
material for use in above-the-line (ATL) campaigns of Red Bull and third party promoters in several
online and offline media for promotional activities in relation with the Red Bull Music Academy.

5.) Since Red Bull operates globally, this may mean Red Bull could transfer your personal
information to other countries, including countries outside the European Economic Area in
accordance with all relevant data protection regulations.

6.) Personal Data will only be used for purposes in connection with the Red Bull Music Academy
and will only be retained by Red Bull, its affiliated companies and its mandated data processors,
jury and other partners for as long as is necessary to fulfill the original or directly related purpose
for which it was collected in connection with the Red Bull Music Academy. This might include a
period of time after the conclusion of the Red Bull Music Academy in order to inform you about
future Red Bull Music Academy events or to fulfill tax related or any other legal queries.

7.) Red Bull, its affiliated companies and its mandated data processors shall process your Personal
Data securely and take appropriate security measures to protect the Personal Data.

8.) Red Bull does not knowingly collect information from persons below the age of 18.

9.) The entered Personal Data shall always be accurate. You should keep your data up to date.
Red Bull will ensure that your personal data is not used if we know that it is not accurate.

10.) Red Bull and its contractors may contact you via email, phone or otherwise in relation
to the Red Bull Music Academy.

11.) At any time, you have the opportunity to require the amendment and/or the deletion, entirely
or partly, of such Personal Data. In such a case, Red Bull will ensure the deletion of such data
as soon as feasible. Please be aware, that you will not be able to further attend the Red Bull Music
Academy in this case.

12.) At any time, you also have the right to request information about the Personal Data we are
