ABSTRACT

This project report focuses on the attempts made during the last two months thoroughly
understanding the very basic of design , production and manufacturing of machine tools. The
project was done at Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited (PSU) In Ranchi .The plant has
a complete manufacturing set up starting from casting & forging, fabrication, machining,
assembly and testing - all at one location .It was mainly divided into four plants namely the
foundry and forge plant, heavy machine and building plant , heavy machine tool plant and
project division.

The manufacturing and supply of the capital equipments & machineries was carefully studied
and observed. The different working units of the plant were visited on daily basis to learn about
the various manufacturing equipments and machine tools of the industries like steel sector,
mining sector , power sector space and research sector, defense sector etc.
