Excel Assignment 5.1

Problem 1. Using a Trip Generation Model
A) Supermarket: 3668 trips; Hotel: 1596 trips
B) 4632 total trips (after removing internal trips)
C) Impact fee without discount = $393,724.76
D) Impact fee with discount = $259,858.34
E) The quality of the supermarket model is merely okay, since the R2
value is 0.52. The quality of the hotel model is great, since the R2
value is 0.96. (Or 0.98 – it was hard to clearly see on the handout)
Supermarket Hotel
X 34000 220
Y (trips) 3668 1596
total trips 3228 1404

Total sum (both) 4632

Impact Fee w/o

Discount $393,724.76
Impact Fee w/ Discount $259,858.34

Problem 2. Creating and Using a Trip Generation Model

A)
Trips vs. Floor Area

B) The best model is Trips vs. Employees, as it has the highest R2 value.
Its linear equation is
𝑇 = 44.917𝑥 + 702.82
C)
# of Employees 12

# of Parking
Spaces 124.1824

The new store will need 125 parking spaces.

D)
Floor Area Model:
Square Feet
(1,000) 2.5

# of Parking
Spaces 100.535
Yearly Earnings Model:
Earnings ($10,000) 130

# of Parking
Spaces 121.7524

Problem 3. Polynomial Regression

A)

Revenue vs. Parking Price

$25,000

$20,000

y = 1059.7x + 9212.5
$15,000
Revenue

R² = 0.617

Parking Price

B)
Parking
Price 10.75

Revenue 20604.28

The expected revenue would be $20,604.28.

C)

Revenue vs. Parking Price

$25,000

$20,000

y = -349.58x2 + 6111.1x - 4886.9

$15,000
Revenue

R² = 0.9507

$0.00 $2.00 $4.00 $6.00 $8.00 $10.00 $12.00 $14.00

D)
Parking
Price 10.75

Revenue 20409.09

The expected revenue would be $20,409.09.

E)
The polynomial model is better because its R2 value is higher than that
of the linear model (0.9507 vs. 0.617). Therefore, it more accurately
models the data.
