Educational Philosophy Statement 2

Introduction
I believe that teacher’s role is to promote quality education for all children. As a teacher,

I want to share the reasons why education of children, the role of teachers, and the role of

students are important. In this paper, I will discuss my philosophy on education, education is

affected by many different factors; the knowledge of cultures, teaching styles, learning styles,

cooperation between the students and teachers, and expectations by the students and teachers.

Purpose of Education
The purpose of education is to guide children to develop who they are and help them

adjust to the real world from their own world. The more we expand our knowledge, the better

we can adapt to certain situations that life exposes us to. For example, when I had a teacher who

knew about my deafness, it showed me that she tried to get to know me more to discover the best

way for me to learn better. The more aware a teacher is about the different cultures his or her

students come from then the more respect that teacher gets from the students. Children are more

open to learning if they have a well-established rapport with the teacher. Children need to be

taught the basics such as Reading, English and Math because these are the stepping stones

needed to relate to other people in real-life scenarios. It is important for children to learn about

different cultures. Cultures are all around us and the reasons why we believe in the things we

believe in.

Teacher’s role
Teachers need to be willing to be the student, the students need to see that teachers do not

know everything and they can learn from each other. When I see a teacher, who may not know

the answer, it is refreshing to have the teacher say “Let’s work together to find the answer.” This

helps the student see that the teacher-student relationship is not built by a wall but by a bridge of

open communication. Teachers need to be caring, enthusiastic, and patient, these characteristics

create an environment that makes the students more excited and motivated to learn. A teachers’

relationship to teaching and learning should involve the knowledge of their lives and their

educational experience. According to Koch (2016), teachers need to expand their ideas through

their personal growth and adjusting to what works for the students which is considered as a

reflective practitioner (p. 4), I believe this is a key part to becoming a good teacher. Life is a

constant learning process and that should be shared with students while teaching. As a teacher, I

would share my knowledge of the world and experiences to allow the kids to challenge me with

their questions. My classroom would be full of hands-on projects that connect to the real world,

an interactive environment where the students would be exposed to a variety of cultures

throughout their learning. Thus, students feel like they are an important part in their learning

environment.

Students’ roles
The students’ roles are to meet the teacher halfway with learning, they both need to work

together to motivate each other with learning. Children are like little sponges who are starting to

gain more knowledge about the real world through participating in the class. According to Koch

(2016), “Teachers provide opportunities and structures that can encourage students to help and

support one another” (p. 149). The students expect that classroom is a safe place like a

community, where they feel welcomed, and can learn with their peers. They are like files that we

put papers in but they are the ones who can write and erase what they learn. My hope is to

collaborate with students and ensure they are successful in their educational journey.

Conclusion
Educational Philosophy Statement 2

In the end, the success of a child’s education relies on a few important factors, the

knowledge of cultures, teaching styles, learning styles. Teachers need to be learners in order to

work together with the students. There needs to be mutual respect between the teachers and

students. This can be accomplished but understanding the different cultures that teachers and

students come from. The education is all about the students and teachers combining their

knowledge together.
