Reflection

Utopia is defined as an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.

When I reflect on the idea of utopia I envision being able to design my own art classroom with a

limitless budget. Students will have to the opportunity to learn techniques and skills using a

sophisticated designing program while extending thinking about interior spaces. The creative

aspects of this project include designing the space architecturally and choosing

furniture/materials that would be employed within their utopian space.

For this assignment students will learn how to create a 3D interior space using AutoCAD

which would replicate their vision of their ideal future art classroom. AutoCAD is a drafting

software program used by architects, designers, and engineers to create blueprints and models

for building and designing purposes. Among learning how to use the software students will also

create an inventory reflecting furniture and supplies they would like to have in their future

classroom. Students will also learn how to draw a floorplan that interiors designers would use

to create a floorplan and architects would use like a blueprint.

I chose to teach this lesson because classroom organization is quality of an effective

teacher. I feel as though space planning is important to help teachers create a safe functional

environment for their future students. If teachers can create spaces that are aesthetically

pleasing, functional, and accommodating they have completed a component of classroom

management. Art teachers are responsible for accommodating 100’s of students a week and it

is important the classroom is organized. Organization is vital to ensure that students are able to

create artwork in an environment that is safe, clutter free, and inviting. In the future I would I

would like to find the opportunity to teach future teachers these skills for their personal
knowledge and possibly pass this knowledge on their students. In my future teaching practices I

would like to this lesson to my future students, but I would encourage them to create a variety

of interior spaces.
