Disney—The first choice for spring break

Disney World is known “as the most magical place on earth”, so a multitude of people are
attracted to the idea of visiting Disney World. During spring break at UConn, at least four students who
are in the UConn Academic English Language Institute (UCAELI) Writing and Reading class went to a
Disney World located in Orlando, Florida.
Disney World was founded by Walt Disney in 1971. Walt Disney had a dream to make all
children’s dreams come true. In order to do this, he created Walt Disney Studios and then the parks came
about. Nowadays, Disney World has become one of the most popular places for children and their
families to frequent. Walt Disney’s original plans included an “Experimental Prototype Community of
Tomorrow”, which was a planned community intended to serve as an experimental place for new city-
living innovations. When Walt Disney died in 1966, which occurred during the construction of Disney
World, the studio abandoned the experimental concepts for a planned community without Walt Disney.
As of today, there is no evidence of the experimental community in Disney World anymore.
 As a young child, many Chinese people experience Disney World through their television.
Visiting Disney World is a dream for many, but at times unobtainable. Actually, there is a Disneyland in
China, but no Disney World. There are not a lot of people who know about the differences between
Disneyland and Disney World. First, the size is different. Disneyland is so small that you can walk
everywhere however, Disney World is on roughly 144 thousand acres of land. Even the smallest park is
as same as the entire property in California. You need three days to fully do all the parks because of some
smaller walkways. Second, there are more characters in Disney World. Kids in Disneyland tent to see
Mickey. Meet and greets happen for about three hours a day in Disneyland, but in Disney World, you
could spend all day to collect character autographs and still be missing more than half of them. There is,
actually, only one Disney World which is located in Florida, America.
Harriette was one of the students from UCEALI who went to Disney World in spring break and
she introduced the basic situation on her trip. “There are four theme parks, but I just visited two of them,”
she said, “Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are two parks I visited. I didn’t have enough
time to visit the rest of them, the Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In the Magic Kingdom, there is
an exciting entertainment facility called ‘Splash Mountain’.” This facility looks like a roller coaster, but
the difference is that there is a pond waiting for you when you rush from the top instead of a loop. Most
of time, people are soaked to the bone. Another park Harriette visited is Disney’s Animal Kingdom and
compared to Magic kingdom, she prefers this Animal kingdom. “There is a virtual reality (VR) game.
When I wore special suits that designed for this game, I was in the Avatar's movie and rode a
Leonopteryx which is a large bird and appear in the movie Avatar. That is amazing and depressing
because I stood in line for two hours in order to experience this VR game. Such a long time.”
Disney World is one of the most magical places in the world; there are millions of people visiting Disney
World every year. If you don’t want to waste tons of time in line, “fast pass” could be the best choice for
you and it is free. All the things you need to do is download the Disney World’s application on your
phone, sign up your own account and apply for your free fast pass. Compared to other parks, such as Six
Flags, and Universal, you don’t need to pay for “fast pass” in Disney World.

Disney World is a popular place for Chinese UCAELI students to go for spring break because it
is the dream for Walt Disney and Chinese UCAELI students. Coming to Disney World makes people’s
dream come true. Chinese UCAELI students can experience different theme parks in the Disney World.
This is the best deal for Chinese UCAELI students.

How to get an on-campus job as a student?

Do you want to find a job in order to buy anything that you want without your parents' permission? Do
you admire these students when you see them working in the dining hall to make their own money?
Finding a job on-campus is not really hard and you will get a bunch of benefits.
For local students, there is no limit. You can find a job on campus or off campus. The situation is totally
different for international students. You just allowed finding an off-campus job that is associated with
your major. If you want to get paid in your off-campus job, you need to go to the school’s office to get the
acceptance in order to get an off-campus job. If you want to find a job on campus, you don’t need to get
permission to get paid. In fact, international students can’t find any jobs in restaurants off campus.
In UConn, there is an exact student job classifications system from Office of Student Financial Aid
Services.
1. Class one: students don’t need to be trained or experience, and also the paid of these jobs are the
lowest compared to other classes.
2. Class two: students need to have a reasonable degree and prior experience. These jobs require
students to take considerable responsibility.
3. Class three: students need to have a higher degree of skill and these jobs require students to take
an extensive amount of responsibility with less supervision.
 4. Class four: students need to have skill, knowledge, and training in specific areas. Students may
need exercise discretion and independent judgment.
When you find a job on campus, you can go to our university's website called UConn Student
Employment. Before you find the job that you interested in, you need to prepare your profiles and make
sure you are qualified to apply for this job.

A “Legend” shows up to support the UConn women

The American former professional basketball player, Kobe Bryant, and his daughter came to UConn
Storrs campus together and support the UConn women basketball team on March 02, 2019. At that day,
the second-ranked Huskies beat Houston and the final score is 83-61. Bryant worn a blue UConn shirt and
watched the whole game.
The UConn coach Geno Auriemma who is one of friends of Bryant made fun of Bryant, and Auriemma
said, “Kobe was a little bit of distraction. We were hoping he Would just send his daughter, Gigi, and stay
home so he wouldn’t cause that distraction. But we couldn’t arrange that.” Although Auriemma said that,
he couldn’t hide his happiness and the appearance of Kobe absolutely inspire Huskies’ determination.
In fact, this is not the first time that Kobe went to the scene and cheer for Huskies. Bryant watched the
game that is Huskies against UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in the last year and also watched Huskies’ Final
four. The former professional basketball player Reggie Miller tried to convince Kobe Bryant to send his
daughter to play basketball at UCLA but Kobe preferred to sent his daughter to UConn.
Some people say that Bryant’s daughter will be one of Huskies, and this time, Bryant came to UConn
campus in order to visit the campus like what other parents did. Although Bryant’s daughter is a fan of
Huskies, we can’t predict what will happen in the future.

Funny time

 People who commit crimes such as stealing money are actually obeying laws when they
buy things for money.
 There are six rules that men/boys need to follow:
1. Girlfriends will never be wrong.
2. If I find that my girlfriend is wrong, I must be wrong.
3. If I am not mistaken, my girlfriend makes a mistake because of me.
4. If it is my girlfriend’s own mistake, as long as she doesn’t admit her mistake, it is my fault.
5. If my girlfriend does not admit her mistake, I still insist that she is wrong, that is my fault.
6. In short, girlfriend will never make any mistake.

The first picture of black hole proves that it is real

Black hole was a mystery or a guess. We know that black hole may exist in the space, but we never see its
real appearance, which hide behind the veil of mystery, until April 10, 2019.
The black hole is always speculation until last Wednesday. The theory of general relativity predicts that a
sufficiently compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black hole, but we can’t prove this speculation.
In fact, we can see the black hole itself because the black hole itself is invisible. The first image of black
hole is that when black hole “eats” the star around it. There is some friction between gases, which
produce bright light, coupled with radiation from other frequency bands, so we could capture the
luminescence of the black hole.
In fact, the picture is not only one of the evidences supporting the existence of black holes, but also helps
verify general relativity. Although this first image of black hole verifies the general relativity, it doesn’t
mean general relativity is completely right. “Black hole environments are a likely place where general
relativity would break down,” says EHT team member Feryal Ozel, an astrophysicist at the University of
Arizona in Tucson. Testing general relativity in an extreme condition could help us to find the mistakes in
general relativity and revise it.
Nowadays, scientists are trying to get more information about the black hole which means we could get
more images in the future. Finding the first image is the first step for us to explore the space. Science
never ends.

Suicide in college

Suicide is the second leading cause of death, after traffic accidents, among college students and the
percentage of suicide is increasing now.
Sadly, a federal privacy law often prevents colleges from notifying parents that their children’s struggles
even faculty and administrator know about them. In 2016, a tragedy happened. A student, Graham,
hanged himself in his dormitory at Hamilton College. Graham wrote in his diary that he was flunking in
three courses in four. Graham had struggled to sleep and missing classes. In addition, the administrators
of college knew his struggles and the college didn’t tell Graham’s struggles to his parents. (Anemona
Hartocollis, 2018)
In fact, in the research, researchers find that over 20 percent of students said they had stressful events that
made them crazy and students had some thoughts related to mental health, including suicide or attempts,
which means one student in five seriously consider suicide. These numbers told us that it is not a joke and
we need to face it.
There is an article written by Jane E. Brody, and she said based on the National College Health
Assessment, the number of students who have depressive disorder is increasing from 32.6 percent in 2013
to 40.2 percent in 2017. During the same period, the number of students who had the thinking about
suicide increased from 8.1 percent to 11.5 percent, and the number of attempting suicide increased from
1.3 percent to 1.7 percent. About one student in twelve has a suicide plan.
Khadeja Purdy, a senior student in UConn, considered suicide in her freshman year. “I was an A student
in my high school and I thought I can keep it in college. But I was wrong. In my first year, it is really
tough. I studied hard and the best grade I got was B and my Chemistry grade was D. At the same period, I
got some problems associated with relationship,” She said, “I felt depression and planned to suicide in
order to end all of that. I am glad that I am afraid of pain, so I didn’t suicide, but I really had a plan to do.”
A multitude of students may have the same problem as Purdy.
As students’ progress through college, students have more stressful events or situations. These situations
may come from their academy or their social relationship. In addition, the extent of the problem is most
likely much larger because many students suffering from mental problems don’t ask for help.
If you are a college student and you have the same problem that could let you associate with suicide,
finding a psychologist is an effective way for you to solve this problem.
