The Red Badge of Courage Bravery Assignment

Bravery is one of the most if not the most important characteristics in The Red Badge of
courage, and not because it’s in the tittle but it helps in defining what the soldier is willing to fight and
die for. A young boy named henry in the north side of the U.S wants to join the army so he can fight in
the war as well and be in his mind a man. Stephen Crane wrote this novel in the form of realism and in
this form it shows how life on the war is like and what the soldiers have to do in battle to survive. In
henry’s mind set when he enters the military he is but a young boy waiting for his chance to shine, to
the end of the novel when all is said and done he became an experience man now knowing how war is
like and reflecting on his past actions. Between those two end points the journey is about courage and
what defines it, and the novel explores it heavily by introducing characterization, irony and imagery in
those forms.
