THE CIVIL WAR

A presentation by:- Teja Karanam and William

Scissors.
What is the
Civil War
• The Civil War is an
event that took
place in the
United States
from 1861-1865.
This event was a
long fight over the
enslavement of
black people.
The Bloodiest Fight Of The
United States
• This was a fight between the North and South
parts of the country. While the North
opposed the spread of slavery into states
that did not exist, meanwhile, the Southern
economy was largely based on plantation
which was run by slave labor, so they were
against anti-slavery.
• Abraham Lincoln supported Northern ideals,
also he and his union were more committed
to the union than state rights.
• Anyway, he still happened to win the presidency
on November 6, 1860.
The Separation of the States
• Shortly thereafter, South Carolina and other deep self-states began to
declare their secession from the United States to protect their rights to
keep slaves.
• This group than formed The Confederate States of America on February 4,
1861.
• On April 12, 1861, the fighting began when the Union held Fort Sumter
and South Carolina was under attack by Confederate soldiers.
• This bloodless siege lasted 34 hours with Unions surrender.
• Abraham Lincoln pushed the fight, he requested volunteer armies, which
caused 4 more slave states to join the Confederacy and join the war.
• There were 23 Union states
More versus 11 Confederate states.
• The next significant clash was
Information  Virginia's first Bull Run on July
18, 1861. The North expected
an easy win because they
greatly outnumbered the
South. However,
the Confederates took the
battle significantly and took
tactical help from Thomas
Stonewall Jackson.
• This war brought income tax to
the United States to pay for
the war.

• After The First Battle Of Bull
And some Run, there was a second which
took place in 1862, also had
more... Thomas Stonewall Jackson as
the commander/general of the
Confederates. This war also
proved to be one of the
bloodiest battle in American
history.
• These two wars were
embarrassing defeats for the
unexpecting North/Union.
• It is estimated that over 600,000
soldiers had died during the
war.

Winner
• After a four-year major war, including a lot of battles, the
South surrendered to the North.
• The main reason that was discussed for the North’s win was
because of their economy, the North didn’t rely much on a
certain type of revenue and had a lot of immigrants move
into the North, the South was getting outnumbered and
after the commander/general of the South, Robert E. Lee‘s
surrender. Which caused the South to lose their power and
were forced to surrender.
The End
• After the Union won the War, President
Abraham Lincoln had one of his greatest
speeches in American History. He repeated
the phrase in Declaration of Independence,
“All men are created equal“. He prayed for
the dead.
• Once in for all, even though some states still
happened to have a tiny amount of slave
labor, most of the country was slave-free.
• After the Civil War, there was a reconstruction
era, which was followed by the African
American rights.
