EARTHQUAKE IN GUJARAT

The 2001 Gujarat earthquake, also known as the Bhuj earthquake, occurred on 26
January, India's 52nd Republic Day, at 08:46 AM IST and lasted for over 2 minutes. It is
occurred in the village of Chobari in Bhachau Taluka of Kutch District of Gujarat, India.

The earthquake killed nearly 20,000 people injured another 1,67,000 and destroyed
nearly 4,00,000 homes.

There are four different types of earthquakes: Tectonic, volcanic, collapse and
explosion.

A tectonic earthquake is one that occurs when the earth's crust breaks due to geological
forces on rocks and adjoining plates that cause physical and chemical changes.

Volcanic earthquakes are one of the main signs that a volcano is restless.

A collapse earthquake are small earthquakes in underground caverns and mines that
are caused by seismic waves produced from the explosion of rock on the surface

An Explosion Earthquake is an earthquake which results of nuclear and chemical


devices. This occurs when enormous energy nuclear energy is released during
underground nuclear explosions
