Music Lesson Plan

Name: Paris Puuri

Grade/Level: 4 Duration: 30-40minutes Topic: Lesson #2 Ukulele – Alice the Camel

Materials Needed:
 Ukulele
 Chart of C Major scale
 “Alice the Camel” Song

Lesson Objectives:
 Students will learn a C major scale
 Students will pluck the melody to “Alice the Camel”
 Students will sing the melody to “Alice the Camel”

Introduction/Anticipatory Set:
 Recall C and F major chords from last lesson
 Have students strum C major and F major together in time for 8 beats each

Activities:
 Teach students the strumming pattern to “Alice the Camel” – strum F Major for 4 beats,
C Major for 2 beats, F major for 6 beats, C for 2 beats, and F for 2 beats
 Have students listen while I strum “Alice the Camel” – no singing
 Strum together “Alice the Camel”
 Teach the melody and lyrics to “Alice the Camel”
 Have students listen first while I sing
 Have students sing with me – no strumming
 Strum and sing Alice the Camel

o Modifications/Accommodations: Have students paly C7 and Fadd9 instead of C


Major and F Major
o Formative Assessment: Students can successfully strum “Alice the Camel” using
C and F major chords. Are students able to change chords on time without
stopping? Is the strumming tone clear and warm?
o Instructional Strategy: Strum and sing “Alice the Camel” together. Split the class
in two and have one half sing while the other half strums, switch parts and repeat.
 Teach C major scale– show students each individual note and how to pluck on the
ukulele
 Have students play C major scale together
 Pluck the melody to “Alice the Camel” and have students listen first
 Have students pluck the melody to “Alice the Camel” with me
o Modifications/Accommodations: Have students play open strings added one note
at a time.
o Formative Assessment: Do students have a full, warm, tone? Are students
accurately plucking the correct notes? Are students using correct Playing Posture?
o Instructional Strategy: break students into partners to play C major scale. Have
student check with partner that they are playing the C major scale correctly.

Concluding Activity/Success Experience:


 Have students play “Alice the Camel”. With each repeat, reduce the number of humps
until there are none.
 Perform final version of “Alice the Camel”

Extensions:
 Try more two chord songs such as “Jambalaya” “Singing in the Rain” or “Iko Iko”
