Chapter 6

Wiglaf shows the value of loyalty and kindness to his king. “And only one of them remained,

stood there, miserable, remembering, as a good man must, kindship should mean. His name was

Wiglaf he was Wexstan’s son and a good soldier his family had been Swedish, once. Watching

Beowulf, he could see how his king was suffering, burning. Remembering everything his lord

and cousin had given him” (Beowulf 694-701). Beowulf was going through a rough time and

everyone ran for their lives because they were cowards as for Wiglaf; he was the only man who

helped his king in death.

Wiglaf also show the value of solidarity for his king. “Our glorious king! By almighty God, I’d

rather burn myself than see flames swirling around my lord” (Beowulf 725-727). He was

thankful for him and he loved him so he helped him until the end.

Chapter 7

The value that the Anglo-Saxons did not represent is faith. “How you bolted and ran none of

your race will have anything left but their lives” (Beowulf 859-860). The Anglo-Saxons were

unfaithful to their king Beowulf, they were scared for their lives. They did not believe that

Beowulf could kill the dragon.

Other value that they did not represent is regret. “At those wonderful sights, stood weeping as

they saw Beowulf dead on the sand” (Beowulf 865-866). They were relieved that the dragon

was dead but so was their king.
