High School Academic Reflection

Fall

You are now about twenty months away from high school graduation. Over the course of those
months, you will be starting to make decisions about who you are as a young adult, where you
want to be, and what you want to do with your life beyond high school. Take a moment to reflect
on where you have been and where you are going.

Think of a class that you have had success with over the course or your high school career. Why
do you think you were successful in this particular class? What did you do to help yourself?
What did your teacher do? What have you discovered about what works for you as a learner?

I would say English is one, I consider myself good at writing, and when the topic is something i
can get behind, I can just run with it. Every time we get a new book to read I always think “Oh
boy I’m gonna be bored with this” but i always end up liking it and not wanting to admit it. I
listened to the advice on writing from teachers. I think learning for me is better if it’s visual.

Now think of a class that you have struggled with in some way. Why do you think you had a
harder time with this particular class? What did you do/not do that might have impacted the
experience? What might have helped?

I had a hard time with Algebra. I was better with Geometry because it was more visual, but
Algebra was hard because i couldn’t just remember different methods to get the answer like
everyone else. I would always think “why didn’t I remember to do that?” I should have gone for
1 on 1 help more often.

At this point, where do you see yourself when you graduate from high school? College, J.C.,
trade school, work world, travel,....?

I see myself more in a Community College rather than a four year, I might transfer to a Four year
later but right now I know that there’s no way i can get into a four year.

What goals will you have to accomplish, academically speaking, in order to get yourself to
where you want to be?

I would have to take a training program for any jobs i would want. Nothing at this school has
anything like them, at least currently. Unfortunately, the class below me will get those
programs at this school. Which is why i have to express my anger in bold text.

What SPECIFIC strategies could you adopt over the course of this year to help yourself?

I could experiment with programs such as Blender, Unity, and Paint Tool SAI to learn how to do
things that would be needed for the careers I am interested in.
