Design Statement

Infographics main goal is to educate an audience with a graphic visual representation of

a topic. It typically does not have a lot of words but is quick to get the information

wanted known on the visual. It helps the human eye recognize different numbers,

patterns, and trends to better understand the effects of certain numbers surrounding the

topic. My infographic talks about student athletes being paid to compete with the

university. Mainly, the two sports targeted is the football and men's basketball because

they make an insane amount of money compared to other sports. With this topic brings

a lot of numbers to implement into the design for both controversial sides and opinions.

A lot of the times people overlook the idea that these athletes are students first and so I

put in some statistics, for example, the graduation rate of the march madness teams in

2010. Also, recognizing how much the organization's revenue and the benefits these

athletes bring to them is important to look at. The infographic is clean, color

coordinated, and simple which attracts many eyes within a possible audience. In

addition, all different parts of the infographic has a word or number that sticks out

compared to anything else in the area because it catches the eye and guides the reader

to be more interested. Having it be simple and clean also gives the reader an easier

time going through the infographic and actually having an easier time reading it. Little

things like the font theme and color theme play a critical role in the overall look of the

infographic which is a quality my infographic contains. The infographic should help the

audience understand the athletes more using a statistical point of view. The infographic

will also show what sports athletes go through on a daily basis, so the audience can see

what their schedule is like. It will also help the audience see the pros and cons of

college athletes getting paid. There are a lot of facts that will be mentioned in the

infographic. There will also be many articles that will be used to help backup the

information mentioned in the infographic. The reason I created the infographic was to

show why college students should be paid using many different statistical sources. The

infographic I chose is very artsy and pleasing to look at. I made sure that the colors I

chose are very pleasing to the eyes. I also tried to make the infographic relatable to

anyone reading it. The photo that I used in the header helps represent the topic that

was brought forth in the infographic. There are so many questions that this infographic

helps brings to the table and allows the audience to think about. There were many

different ways I could have went about it, but the infographic I chose was the best way

to address the topic. The infographic is simple yet relatable, and can be understood by

any audience. Overall, the infographic I chose was the best way to address the topic.
