Reflection

My strengths in my ethnography assignment is getting good actuate information rather

than guess, having a friend so that I feel comfortable, and etc. My weaknesses in my

ethnography is not taking enough photos. Although, I have a good reason not to. My reason

being is I was mainly at people houses so it looked weird taking a photo of someone’s house. If I

had more time I would probably would have kept my hand written notes instead of writing them

down. That way everyone can see my thought when I was researching. If I had more time I

would have changed the data of how I collected it by interview at much people. I would literally

interview 1000 people if I had time. I would be able to then enhance my project. I learned about

cultural diversity is they all have their own beauty in some way or another. As well as we are

similar as human being. Just because we do something different doesn’t mean we are all bad

people.

What I learned about ethnocentrism is every one really does have their own way of life.

Despite being in a cultural group. Everyone still has “their own way” of living. I learned about

more on cultural relativism about Somalians on genders. I had a hard time understanding why

they would exclude gay people in their cultural group. At one point when they were explaining to

me I told myself “okay, wait, look in their shoes.” That helped me understand a bit more on the

idea of why they do that. Some ways I can use what I learned in this course is mainly at work. I

work as a Medical Assistant so I meet all kinds of people. I try to stay open minded. If not I
learned in this class to learn about the cultural before I assume anything. Even If I don’t like

something I know we are all human beings.
