Bailey Grasso

Professor Moore

ENGL 1301-01

11 February, 2019

I visited the learning lab last Wednesday, on February 6. I was in the learning lab from 11

am to about 12:50 pm studying and doing homework for my developmental math class. Since it

takes me longer to understand math, I enjoy going to the learning lab to catch up and finish

notes. Julie is the tutor I went to that day, she is a sweet younger lady who also teaches math

classes at the college. I have known Julie since last year, as she was my tutor then as well. I

struggle with math and I have been set behind due to the absences from my illness. The tutoring

session consisted of me writing notes on all the chapters that I missed. As well as asking

questions about the factoring of greatest common factor and trinomial/ binomial expressions.

Julie was able to help answer my questions so I could do more of the problems on my own. I
stayed in her tutoring room in case I stumbled across a problem I still didn’t understand; I was

able to complete two homework sheets that day.

I learned that even though you may understand/ think you understand a subject, it may be

beneficial to have someone explain it in a further context so you get a deeper understanding of

the exact material you need to know. My session went as expected with no surprises. The

learning lab is a tremendous help for any student who may not immediately understand a subject,

or who needs an extra boost to finish an assignment. The learning lab has such a vast amount of

tutors (in many different subjects) at all times that you are always being helped! I visit the

learning lab two to three times a week, and I have seen a noticeable change in the way I perceive

math as well as the time it takes me to complete a certain assignment.
