How Raahmah’s Debate Life started?

“It started during our college departmental day when I was in freshmen way back 2012.
Each year level was required to have a debate team to compete for the eliminations.
Surprisingly, our year level mayor and other officers approached me to be part of it. I
really do not have a wide grasp of how debate works but public speaking was really my
thing so I just thought of saying YES on the idea that my speaking prowess would save
me on that haha. Eventually, Lousian Debate Society (LDS), a commended organization
in USL scouted new members and targeted new debaters from each department so I
was officially in to debate.”

Debate Competition Preparation Experiences and

Achievements

Raahmah prepares having many brainstorm sessions and meetings with her devoted
coaches, mentors, officers and seniors of the LDS who molded the debater in her. Most of
them are CPA’s now who are and always have been, instrumental in helping her prepare,
and feels she owes a lot of her success to their thoughtfulness, constructive feedback,
and attention to details. “I also am incredibly grateful for all the help that my mother has
dedicated to help coach me, help me edit my speeches, and instill me with a sense of
love, pride, and support!” Raahmah added.

Furthermore when asked about her achievements, she answered, “I got 10 points in our
University Debate Championship 2015. I usually garner best speaker awards but I also get
to have best debater awards. Apart from this, I have participated in numerous debating
championships as well. However, the best thing debating has given to me is the
opportunity to mix with wonderful people from variety of places.”

Raahmah talks about losing says, “It's all part of it. In those cases, disappointment would really
come in, but it turns out to inspire me more to become a better debater. As for me kasi, during
my latter years as a debater i get to enjoy it na lang unlike before na i really look at it as a
competition. It helped me when I was able to see the fun out of it. All losing moments will just
add up the fire within u to argue better and become wittier.”
