Engagement: In this lesson the students are provided individual choice within this lesson as they design their
own booklet or even PowerPoint. They will feel impowered with voice and choice, within the lesson as they
determine their favorite holidays and determine meaning behind them. The idea that their work will be
presented will motivate the students to put forth their best efforts.

Representation: Students are provided with several means of representation throughout the lesson.
Language with in the e-booklet is supported with audio and visuals that allow for language clarity. The lesson
will also build on the activation of the student prior knowledge building on their current knowledge of the
holidays that they are aware of.

Action and Expression: Students are provided with multiple means of action and expression in this lesson.
During this assignment, the students are using basic productivity tools to aid in their learning experience. The
students will use a computer to learn about the holidays. The students will have the ability to print the e-book
and they are able to customize the book to their own design.

Lesson idea implementation:


This lesson is on the national holidays that are celebrated in the United States. In addition to those holidays, other
holidays are discussed to include cultural awareness and diversity within the lesson. Per the standard, each holiday
is identified and a brief description of the holiday is provided with the picture and audio. This PowerPoint can also
be printed and used as a reading supplement for students.

The PowerPoint presentation will be used to aid in the introduction of the lesson. After watching, the teacher will
lead a discussion on the holidays as well as describe the people and/or how the event is celebrated. In a large
group, students will share what they know about each holiday. Then students will individually work on creating a
booklet or sheet were the draw a picture representing each holiday and provide an explanation to how it relates to
the holiday. Students will share and present their ideas with the class.

Reflective Practice:
The students could have a holiday showcase, where the class would be divided into groups and each group is
responsible for making a craft (lead by the teacher or parent volunteers). The kindergarten students would set up a
display or booth, that the other students and teachers within the school could go to. Each booth would be set up
representing that holiday and have a craft related to the holiday and while the students share information about
their assigned holiday.
