M Listeners’ Club: Friday, 3rd May, Sandré Hall, 7.00 pm

From the familiar notes of The Messiah to the massed strings of Mahler’s
5/19 Resurrection Symphony and the simple celebrations of a Nordic Midsummer,
Indranil Poddar invites you to an evening of Easter music. A Listeners’ Club
presentation.

Annual Students’ Concert 2019 (Classical): Saturday, 4th May, Sandré Hall,
The Calcutta School of Music

5.00 pm
The Annual Intra School Competition that the students of piano, violin and
guitar sections eagerly wait for. Musicality, technique and virtuosity will be
assessed by our esteemed judges and outstanding performers will be awarded
at the concluding ceremony of that evening.

Annual Students’ Concert 2019 (Non Classical): Sunday, 5th May, Sandré Hall,
5.00 pm
“Clash of the Musicians”- the story unfolds as the drummers, guitarists and the
keyboardists of the school gear up to present their best and take away the
prestigious cups and medals by sheer power of their performances, keeping the
audience spellbound and the judges impressed.

Monthly Guitar Concert: Saturday, 11th May, Sandré Hall, 7.00 pm


The father of classical guitar, Andres Segovia was a pivotal figure whose crusade
on behalf of the classic left an imprint on musical history. He not only established
the instrument in it’s rightful place along with other ‘respectable‘ concert
instruments, but also persuaded many of the prominent main stream composers
to compose for the guitar which resulted in an enriched repertoire for the
instrument. Segovia, to great extent enabled the guitar earn the status it enjoys
today. The evening will explore composers like Turina, Ponce and more who
wrote a lot of music for Segovia.

Annual Students’ Concert 2019 (IMPA) and prize distribution ceremony:


Sunday, 12th May, Sandré Hall, 5.00 pm

The students of Indian Music and Performing Arts Section will present their talent
on stage before esteemed judges who will sieve the performances to identify the
finest performers and award them in recognition.
This is going to be an extravagant show of keen competition.

Jazz Listeners’ Forum: Friday, 17th May, Sandré Hall, 7.00 pm


From a jazzman to a bandleader to a civil rights soldier to a producer of pop’s
greatest triumphs, ‘Q’ is one of the great musical figures of the 20th century , a
restless polymath who worked across jazz, the blues , pop , funk and rap. His Work
always balanced musical complexity and mass appeal. Duke Ellington had

instructed Jones to “de categorize American music”. This will be the crux of the
audio-visual programme to be presented by Ajoy Ray for the Jazz Listeners‘ Forum.
Quincy indelibly marked the careers of Dizzy Gillespie, frank Sinatra, Aretha
Franklin, Michael Jackson and scores more.
