She excelled during her student teaching placement at the Hollidaysburg Area Junior High school. She planned and co-taught with students in seven different classes (math, reading, English, and science). Students in these classes presented a wide range of abilities as well as several disability categories: autism, emotional disturbance, traumatic brain injury, and specific learning disabilities in the areas math, reading and written expression. Miss McMullen utilized IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and curriculum-based test data to plan interactive lessons for each class. She worked with her students to build a rapport and to gain knowledge of their Personal backgrounds. She also used knowledge of peer relationships and social cues to create cooperative groups for several lessons. Miss McMullen went above and beyond by planning and executing a culminating escape room activity in reading class, an interactive angles lesson with stations for math class, and an osmosis lab with gummy bears for science class. Miss McMullen is flexible in her classroom instruction. She was able to adjust lessons through various delays, dismissals, and cancellation days due to the weather. She is aware and responsive of her students’ needs and makes adjustments as needed during the lesson and for future classes. Miss McMullen utilizes technology and integrates Google Classroom and the Promethean Board into many of her lessons. Miss McMullen effectively exhibits strengths that will make her an asset to your district: flexibility, compassion for each individual student, character, ethics, organization, punctuality, and a true passion for teaching.
