CONDITIONAL SENTENCE

 Type 1 : FUTURE (50:50)

Main clause (present future) ; if clause (present simple)


S + will + V1 S + V1 s/es
Ex. I will get a lot of money if I work hard.

 Type 2 : PRESENT (20:80 or 10:90)

Main clause (past future) ; if clause (past simple)


S+ would + V1 S + V2
Ex. He would be rich if he didn’t gamble.

 Type 3 : PAST (0:100)

Main clause (past future perfect) ; if clause (past perfect)


S + would + have + V3 S + had + V3
Ex. He would have died if he hadn’t gone to the hospital.

CONDITIONAL WITHOUT IF
 Type 1 : FUTURE ( Should + V1)
Ex. If she comes here, she will be happy.
=
Should she come here, she will be happy

 Type 2 : PRESENT (were + V1)


Ex. If she were you. She would buy it.
=
Were she you, she would buy it.

 Type 3 : PAST ( had)


Ex. If I had done my HW, I would have gone with you.

Had I done my HW, I would have gone with you.

REAL FACTS
 Type 1 : Future (may, remains the same form)
Ex. If I meet him, I will go with him

I may meet him. In that case, I will go with him.

 Type 2 : PRESENT (present simple, opposite)


Ex. If I were a doctor, I would examine you.
=
I am not a doctor, so I do not examine you.

 Type 3 : PAST (past simple, opposite)


Ex. If he had finished his HW, he would have watched a movie
=
He didn’t finish his HW, so he didn’t watch a movie.
