and Time
LOG

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of Newton’s three laws of motion and uniform
circular motion.

B. Performance The learners shall be able to develop s written plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics”.
Standards
C. Learning The learners should be able to investigate the relationship between the amount of the force
Competencies / applied and the mass of the object to the amount of change in the object’s motion. (S8FE-

lesson or presenting Teacher asks the students:
the new lesson
 What is Force?
 What is the effect of Force on an object?

B. Establishing a purpose ENGAGE

for the lesson The teacher instructs the students to place a book on the table and asks the following
questions:
C. Presenting examples/
instances of the new  What will happen when you pull the book?
lesson  What will happen when you push the book?

What will happen when you push or pull the book at rest on its opposite sides with equal
forces?

D. Discussing new EXPLORE

concepts and Activity – instructions: Hang a wooden block with the help of thread.
practicing new skills
#1 Questions:
E. Discussing new
concepts and  How many forces acting on the block?
practicing new skills  What force is acting downwards on the block?
#2  What forces are acting upwards on the block?

 Draw a diagram of the block/thread in hand on the board showing the two arrows
representing the two forces. Why is the block at rest?
 Cut the thread. What happens to the block now?

Draw a diagram on a block and the thread on the board after the thread has been cut,
showing an arrow that represents one force. How many forces are acting on the block after
the thread has been cut?
F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN
(Leads to Formative The block and the book stayed at rest because of the upward push exerted on it by the
Assessment) table which we refer to as normal force and by the string which we refer to as tension force.
Both tension and normal forces counteract the pull of gravity (F g) that acts on the objects.
The object remains at rest because the forces acting on them are in equal magnitude and
opposite direction and they lie along the same line of action. The forces are balanced.

An object (string and book) moves because of the push that you applied. The forces acting
on this object are no longer balanced. If an object initially at rest is under unbalanced force,
it moves in the direction of the unbalanced force.

Forces occur in pairs and can be either balanced or unbalanced. Balanced forces don’t
cause a change in motion. They are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
Unbalanced forces always cause a change in motion. They are not equal and opposite.

abstractions about the
lesson
I. Evaluating learning EVALUATE
Directions: Identify the following situations whether there are balanced or unbalanced
forces acting on the object.

1. The ball is resting on top of the table.

2. A boy is pushing the cart.
3. Chandelier hanging on the ceiling.
4. A girl is sitting on the chair.
5. A chime hanging on the door
J. Additional activities EXTEND
for application or Task:
remediation
 Explain the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.
 Suppose there is a ceiling fan hung from the rod. What are the forces acting on it?
Draw the diagram on your notebooks and show the forces acting on the fan with
the help of the arrows.

who have caught up
with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who
