A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Math VI
A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Math VI
I. Objectives
At the end of the class discussion, pupils must be able to:
1. derive a formula for finding the volume of rectangular prisms;
2. find the volume of a rectangular prism;
3. write solution in finding volumes of rectangular prisms correctly; and
4. work cooperatively to achieve best results.
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
Mental computation using flashcards.
5x3x2 4x7x1 2 1
x
3 2
8x5x1 2x6x2 1 3
x
4 5
6x2x3 ½x2
2. Review
Call pupils to hold the flashcards in front. Let them match the drawing with the
name of the space figure it represents.
pyramid
rectangular prism
cone
cylinder
sphere
cube
B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
a. Show a Rubik’s cube.
Questions:
a. What do you call this object?
b. Do you know how to play it?
b. Teacher calls on pupils and let them demonstrate how to play the rubik’s
cube.
2. Presentation
a. Ask the pupils if they know the total number of small cubes making
up the rubik’s cube.
b. Tell the class that the number of small cubes that make up the
rubik’s cube is its volume.
c. Define volume. (Volume is the number of units cubes that fit inside
an object.)
d. Activity 1
1. Show the class an empty transparent rectangular
container.
2. One by one, let the pupils fill the container with small cubes
until its upper portion. Count the number of cubes as each
pupil put one in the container.
3. Let the pupils count the cubes with reference to the length,
width and height of the container.
4. Basing on the result of the activity, guide the pupils in
deriving the formula for finding the volume of a rectangular
prism.
Questions:
a. How many cubes did you put inside the rectangular
container?
b. If we haven’t counted the total number of cubes
placed in this container, can we still find its total
number?
c. When we get the total number of cubes that the
container has, what have we looked for? (Answer:
volume)
d. By just using the dimension, the length, width, and
height, can we get the volume of the rectangular
prism? How?
e. What is the formula in finding the volume of a
rectangular prism?
f. What unit of measurement will you use?
C. Post Activities
1. Fixing Skills
Let the pupils work by pairs.
a. Count the cubic units to find the volume of each.
1. 2.
l = l =
w= w=
h= h=
v= v=
b. Write the formula and solve for the volume
3. 4.
l = 2.5m
w = 3.3m
h = 1.8m
IV. Evaluation
A. Complete the table.
Find the volume of the following.
Length Width Height Volume
1. 9dm 8.6 dm 5 dm
2. 40cm 15 cm 20 cm
3. 5 ¾ m 4½m 7m
ML =
ID =
V. Assignment
Complete the table.
Length 8.2 dm 5½m 2.3 m
Width 4.7 dm 2¼ 6m
Height 2.6 dm 4 3/8 m 9m 2.6 m
Volume 756 m3 17.94 m3
