 Here is the thing about the ending: We don't know the fate of the courtier.
 The princess knew the placement of the lady and the tiger. BUT, does she save
her lover from the tiger? Or does she save herself the jealousy of having her
lover marry the woman.
 On the one hand the guy would get killed. On the other, she would have to
watch as he married some lady that she hated. We never find out the end. You
have to decide what happens.
After you read think of this…
 1. Would you consider this culture to be ruled justly? Explain your reasons and
give specific examples how it differs from U.S. society, law, government, etc.in
one paragraph.
 2. What was "barbaric" about the king and his daughter? What wasn’t barbaric?
 3. Was the young man innocent? Was he guilty? Justify your answer by writing
facts about it from what was said in the story.
 4. Is Justice served by the choice of the two doors or is gambling promoted?
Why?
 5. What do you think the author is trying to say to the people in our country
through this story?
 6. Write a short 5 paragraph essay with your response to the ending of the story;
which door would you choose? Don't forget to explain why you chose the door
you did and be prepared to defend your belief in class.
