As regards vour querv in clause 3:
In response to query No. 3 it is reliabfy learnt that South Indian Inscriptions Volume IV
(published by the Archaeological Sufvey of India) pages 231-233 relating to the pillar
inscription no. 711 and 7ll-A carries material proof of weaving tradition in
Mangalagiri town centuries ago. Besides, there is also a well known legend relating to
pilgrims who were said to have offerod their obeisance to Lord Panakala Narasimha on
the hill top, and would then buy a saree from a local weaver before leaving
Mangalagiri.
In response to query no. 4, it is reiterated that all Information relating to clause 4 of the
FCR have been detailed already under Heading titled "Method of Production" of both
Form GI 1 and SOC under various subheads.:
i. Quality of raw material:- Pure cotton yarn in the hank form. 80s x 80s
thickness. Zarithreads in silver and gold.
ii. Method of production of raw fibers and their utilization in making the
finished product:- Pure cotton yarn is procured from the mills in Tamil Nadu.
Now even available from mills in Andhra Pradesh. Zari rs procured from Surat.
iii. Texture of raw fiber:- Tlne yarn procured is creamish in colour with the
presence of several impurities such as oil, wax etc. The yarn is also sticky in
texture which is why it is boiled in hot water with caustic soda and soap. In
essence the yarn is not very flne in nature. In the pre-loom process rice conjee
is sprayed to reinforce the fabric and make it amenable.
iv. Quality of Water:- Since we have not mentioned anything with regard to
quality of water we can pre$ume that the same does not qualitatively affect
production of Mangalagiri sarees, in which case , as we have seen in a few
other GIs, we can establish a reliable linkage between the skill of weavers
passed on over generations with the region delineated for this GI
In response to the query No. 5, it is stated that the inspection and quality control would
be undertaken by the master artisans at the first instance who employ high standards of
quality control. Subsequent to which the final product would inspected by the APCO
Regional Manager to add anothor layer of Quality control and Inspection . Apart from
thJ above pr"uiiling two-tier inspection system, The Weaver Service Centre and
Additional Director Handlooms would act in an advisory capacity to the Master
Weavers.

In response to the query No. 6, it is stated that attempts are being made to procure
documents to support the existetrce of the GI years ago'
In response to the query no. 7 it is stated that the representation sheet with the requisite
detaili would be furnished whsn the Apex society is formed and details of name and
address ofthe society are proculed.
response to query No. 8, it is stated that the required notarized affidavit would be
filed
as soon as the Apex bodY is formed.
The Registrar of GI is hereby requested to take this response to the FCR dated 6th April
2010 on record and proceed in the matter. It is once again undertaken to file all details
of the Apex body as and when it is formed.
Yours sincerely,
