Daily Writing #19

2-25-19
I remember my parents coming home from work exhausted but would not be able to rest because
they had to take my sisters and I to our extracurricular activities. This made me want to help,
even though at the time there was nothing I could do.
I remember driving my little sisters from school for the first time. This made me feel very
independent and useful since I was helping my parents as well. It was the beginning of January
2017 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and I had just recently earned my driver’s license. This made
me feel very good inside because I felt that I was able to do anything I want without having to
ask my parents to do it for me. This also made me feel good because I knew I could help my
parents. My mother is a teacher and my father is an athletic director at Heritage Middle School.
They both work until the late afternoon, so they tend to rush home every day so that they could
take care of me and my sister’s extracurricular activities such as basketball and dance. I was
excited because I was able to step up to the plate so that my parents could get some rest when
they got home. I began to take my sisters to their dance classes and I would be able to drive
myself to basketball practice every day.
I remember meeting C.J Leslie, an NC State basketball player, with my dad. I remember thinking
about how much I loved basketball and how much I wanted to be like him.
I remember my grandmother cooking me chicken parmesan for the first time in my life. I
remember wondering why there is marinara sauce on chicken, but it turned out to be my favorite
dish.
I remember going to New York City to visit my father’s parents. This was a great memory
because my family doesn’t get many opportunities to see them.
