Dear All,
I am a bit confused about the factor f4 called scale factor in Staad.pro while using the response factor analysis
Joined: 05 Apr 2008
Posts: 151 command. the syntax of the command is:

SPECTRUM SRSS 1893 X 0.036 ACC SCALE 1

My query is: when one wants to do response spectrum analysis, should the value of SCALE be 1 or 9.81?
Since the response spectrum curve given in IS 1983:2002 is plotted with Sa/g (i.e. normalized) on the vertical axis,
should not we take SCALE (f4) =9.81 ? Later on, the scale can be changed depending upon the value of base
shear obtained through seismic coefficient method.
with regards,
aditya

Dear Sefians,
I searched in the forum regarding the value of scale factor but found that the discussions are confusing. Some

Posts: 151 says "1" and some saying "9.81" while using IS 1893:2002. Please clarify.
Bentley discussion forum says to use "9.81" when the spectrum is given in Sa/g.
with regards,
aditya
