Dear Veronica,
Thanks for answering my questions regarding Dr. Henry Poon’s patient with a blood lead level of 1 ug/dl taken /15.
As I mentioned by phone, the patient may request a lead specific medical exam if he has symptoms or has
concerns about his health at the workplace. As you know, Dr. Muzaffar from our office has spoken to Tiffany Pettit from
Target Masters regarding medical followup questions.
Here is the information I offered to email you:
If you have questions regarding lead medical follow-up, please contact Dr. Saeher Muzaffar from our office at
Saeher.Muzaffar@cdph.ca.gov or (510) 620-5731. If you’d like lead companies to contact our office, please have them
contact our Industrial Hygienist Michael Cooper at Michael.Cooper@cdph.ca.gov or (510) 620-3894. He can offer
guidance on how to set up and improve a lead safety program in the workplace.
Thank you again,
Luz

Hi‐ I was about to leave a msg for but her outgoing cel phone msg says “Tiffany” (510‐857‐7267), who I believe
is the employer contact for Target Masters (emp id‐ 14301). I think it would be best for Saeher to call her back, as you
are our expert for medical followup for . The from called me urgently this morning. She was
upset bc the employer Tiffany called her re: f/u care for a named (wid‐ 550557). The y/o has a bll of 1 ug/dl
taken /15. Per the protocol, need to get bll tested every when they have a bll
of The employer disagrees. So, she would like OLPPP assistance.
Let me know if you’d rather have Mike call her back. The company has lots of ees with blls in the teens and 20s. We sent
them a LOW BLL letter on 12/1/15 and they rec’d a 40+ letter/packet in 2011. Quite a few ees are

However, we'll assist in the medical f/u. I also mentioned that Saeher has been in touch with Tiffany from the range and
suggested bll testing every 2 months. Veronica said it would be best to have that in writing. I will email Veronica the
Medical Guidelines, the Model Contract (btwn md/emp) and other information about our program. Her email:

Then, I called about clarification. She was sure Veronica mentioned Cal/OSHA. I said they are following the
Cal/OSHA guidelines for medical f/u but no Cal/OSHA referral. went into great discussion about case management

Hi,
I spoke with Tiffany. She is concerned re cal/osha referral. Says they are trying to be compliant and are ok with BLL
surveillance and pt being seen in clinic. Worker also per her report owns guns and shoots recreationally. works
3d/wk with them. I mentioned her company has other BLLs in the same range and reviewed our health based
surveillance recs. She inquired about the lead standards and I indicated these were being revised. I am sending her the
links to the standards and draft revision and medical guidelines.
I indicated we could try to connect w/Cal‐OSHA re the referral but said we were somewhat limited since we didn’t
initiate the process and aren’t fully aware of the context of the referral.
Mike, if you can look into the cal/osha role here further that would be helpful; we can also discuss further when you’re
in.
Thanks,
Saeher

Here’s my conversation with the Santa Clara phn:
***Note added 02/01/16 10:23 AM by Luz Kirsch:
called to ask OLPPP for assistance. She'd like us to contact Tiffany Pettit at
Target Masters in Milpitas (408‐263‐7468) bc they called her about a referral the md office (Veronica Perez, MA at
Alliance Occ Hlth 408‐790‐2900) made to Cal/OSHA. doesn't know why the company called her but Tiffany was
very upset about the Cal/OSHA referral. I asked if she knew the name of the IH at Cal/OSHA so that we can help him with
data if needed. OLPPP doesn't intervene with the employer when there's a Cal/OSHA investigation. explained that
she wants OLPPP to contact Tiffany Pettit ASAP bc she's not happy with the recommendations from re: f/u. She
also mentioned that she has been in touch with the Occ Hlth clinic bc the still has a bll of 1 ug/dl in 2015 and no
f/u bll testing has been done since. I said I'll contact the clinic and find out who at Cal/OSHA is involved with the
investigation. lk

Hi‐ I think the best person to talk to an employer is Mike Cooper but I think he's out next week. I'm happy to call her on
Monday 2/1 when I'm back in the office.
Thanks, Luz

Hi Luz,
I received a call from someone in management at a gun range who wanted updated information on “2016 OSHA levels”
of blood lead allowed for workers. They have an employee who is at 1 and they think the occ nurse is wanting to take
too stringent actions based on that. Becki told me you were the one who answers these types of calls. Could you call this
woman back?
Her name is and her number is
Thanks,
Kathleen
