the first proof that RNF43 and ZNRF3, two paralogous E3 ubiquitin ligases, have a tumour
suppressor role in mouse small intestine. Since then RNF43 has been found to be mutated in
several different types of human cancers originating from the pancreas, liver, stomach, ovary
and colon. This work has made a significant impact on the scheme of cancer diagnosis and
classification by providing an additional negative Wnt regulator that functions as an important
tumour suppressor next to APC.
